How did Conrad Dobler die?

Dobler passed away on February 14, 2023, Monday in Pueblo, Colorado, according to the Cardinals. He was 72. The reason for death was not disclosed.

The family member of Dobler confirmed his death on social media. One of his children, Holli Dai shared the heartfelt homage for him on Facebook, saying,

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father Conrad Dobler, a former NFL football player, known for his charisma and larger-than-life personality.

In his final hours, he was surrounded by his family as they cheered on his favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs, to win the Super Bowl. We love you, Dad! – Mark, Erin, Abbey, Franco, Holli and Stephen.”

In an article, Dobler said, “I’ll do anything I can get away with to protect my quarterback,” and that helped the Cardinals offensive line break records by preventing Jim Hart from getting sacked frequently in the middle of the 1970s.

Who was Conrad Dobler?

Dobler was a left guard on a St. Louis club known as the “Cardiac Cardinals” that featured Hall of Famer Dan Dierdorf on the offensive line.

While playing for Hall of Fame coach Don Coryell from 1975 to 1977, Dobler won three consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl.

From 1972 until 1977, he was a member of the Cardinals. After that, he spent two seasons playing for New Orleans and Buffalo.

Dobler was selected in the fifth round of the 1972 NFL draught out of Wyoming. He even played with the Saints and Bills.

He started 77 of his 80 games for the Cardinals. The offensive line allowed only eight sacks throughout the whole 1975 season, a stunning record, and only 40 in his three Pro Bowl seasons.

Dobler was an important member of each of the Cardinals squads led by Hall of Fame coach Don Coryell between 1974 and 1976 that won at least 10 games. Following the end of his career, he continued to embrace his identity in well-known beer commercials.

Conrad Dobler cause of death was not given. He is survived by six children and twelve grandchildren.

Cardinals’ owner Michael Bidwill released a statement on the passing of Conrad and the statement reads, “Our hearts go out to the family, friends, and former teammates of Conrad Dobler,” he wrote.

“He was the kind of tough, physical, and fierce player that you love to line up with as a teammate and hate to line up against as an opponent. On the field, Conrad was a big reason for the success of the Cardiac Cards of the 1970s. Away from it, he brought authentic joy and caring to everyone who had the privilege of being his friend and that is what I will remember most.”
