Obituary
“Fr Boyd-Boland was always present; in the playground, at sporting events, camps, in classrooms, and Friday lunchtime Mass and became part of the Padua fabric. “It was through these everyday encounters that Fr Boyd-Boland created meaningful and long-lasting relationships with so many in our community.” Mr. Elmore said Fr Boyd-Boland spent his life inspiring educators and school communities with his passion and energy for young people and Catholic education. “This includes a commitment of over 30 years to Catholic education at Padua College as a Rector, Teacher, and Chaplain as well as over 50 years of service to the Franciscan Friars,” he said. “Fr Boyd-Boland’s dedication to the ministry of the Franciscan Friars and Padua College is a wonderful example of service and leadership. “His commitment to the College is most exemplified in his connection to the students, families, and staff of Padua. “His time in our community was a constant example of our Franciscan values and the way we want our young men to live their lives. “Fr Boyd-Boland Boyd-Boland was a true servant leader and a worthy recipient of the St Francis Medal. “Fr Boyd-Boland has now returned home to God, and he is at peace. |
Father John -Community service
Fr Boyd-Boland also wrote the words to our College Song. “Many in our current community will remember Fr Boyd-Boland through his incredible work as Chaplain, a role he held from 2007 to his retirement at the end of 2021,” Mr. Elmore said. Fr Boyd-Boland was also Parish Priest at Little Flower Parish in Kedron for six years before this.
He celebrated his 50th year of ordination and service to the Franciscan Friars in 2020, and he was awarded a Spirit of Catholic Education Award in 2021. “Fr Boyd-Boland’s achievements have shaped the Padua College of today,” Mr. Elmore said.
“We celebrate his life, a life well lived. “His life, and the legacy that he leaves, will not be defined in terms of the many achievements in buildings and innovative programs, but in the relationships that he has built with students, parents, and staff, and how he demonstrated what it means to live the Gospel.
