Who was Dwight Popcorn Miller?

From 1997 till the time of his passing, Dwight Popcorn Miller served as the band Earth, Wind & Fire’s stage manager. He previously held the positions of stage manager for Luther Vandross for 15 years and drum tech for 10 years, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was also a former drum/percussion technician for Lionel Richie.

Earth, Wind & Fire (EW&F or EWF) is an American musical group. Their aesthetic and musical range includes jazz, R&B, soul, funk, disco, pop, Latin, and Afro-pop. With over 90 million records sold worldwide, they are one of the most successful musical acts ever.

Additionally, he and Skip Anderson released the jazz album “A Tribute to Blue Note Records.” He loved working in the studio and playing jazz drums.

He was trustworthy, amusing, and sincere. Everyone who knew him well will miss him terribly.

Dwight Popcorn Miller, the Earth, Wind, and Fire band’s stage manager, has passed away. His daughters Eileen Barron and Marie Barron-Wilson posted the tragic information on Facebook.

“IT IS WITH A HEAVY HEART THAT I ANNOUNCE THAT MY FATHER HAS LOST HIS BATTLE WITH CANCER. WE ARE VERY SADDENED BY HIS LOSS. PLEASE KEEP US IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.”

Emily Wallace wrote: “Loss a great friend early this morning. Dwight Popcorn D.D. Miller. We go way back from Toledo to California. Rest on my friend. 👼👼 You will truly be missed.”

Actor Camilla Kauer wrote: “I’m so heartbroken to hear that Dwight “Popcorn” Miller lost his battle with cancer. Please keep his family, friends, and colleagues in your hearts.Earth, Wind & FireFcku Cancer!”

One of the worst things anyone can go through in life is losing a loved one. Any journey must have a destination at the end.   1. My family and I were very close to Popcorn. He used to call me his sister and my mother his mom.
    When he never called to wish my mom happy Mother’s Day. She knew something was wrong.

  2. Popcorn, thank you for providing me the setlist and all I needed to prepare to ASL interpret an EWF show in DC years back at GWU. I’ll never forget how comfortable I felt in preparing..you were very kind and funny. I will never forget you showing the very organized neat board w setlist, your credentials and close in 3rd or maybe 1st your license for medicinal pot in CA…lol I will always cherish your own CD that you gave me. Not everyone can say they met legends in person, face to face with hugs. REST brother!
