What happened to “Sonny” Medel?
Frank “Sonny” Medel, a popular mid-Michigan DJ, has died. He was 55.
Medel, a co-founder of MidwestTejanoRadio.com, died Monday, February 6, his uncle Gilberto Guevara confirmed. Medel was also a Midwest Tejano Cultural Entertainment board member, executive vice president of T.C.T. (Total Control of the Trax), and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Cause of Death
A Popular DJ Frank “Sonny” Medal has passed away at the age of 55. As soon as the News came out, families and friends are pouring condolences on social media.
Frank’s death has been confirmed, however, the particular cause of death has not yet been disclosed. It is currently unknown what caused his death.

He was a Board Member at Midwest Tejano Cultural Entertainment. Frank Went to St. Mary’s High School. Lives Currently he lives in Saginaw, Michigan From Saginaw, Michigan
Guevara said his nephew was a creative, positive person who loved music, especially Tejano music and the rock band KISS, loved to dance, and loved people. “He had many friends through his work as a DJ and the various parties and events throughout the Saginaw area and throughout the state of Michigan,” Guevara said.
A friend to many, Medel was generous and caring. “He was just a person who would give whatever he had. He never hesitated,” Guevara said. “He didn’t discriminate; he loved all people.”

Louie Garcia, who founded MidwestTejanoRadio.com with Medel a decade ago, said his longtime friend and colleague “treated everyone as family.” “That’s the way he was. If you knew him, you were part of his family,” Garcia said. “He was always the life of the party, and he enjoyed life to the fullest.”
Garcia said Medel was active in the community and often participated in events for veterans and youths. “Frank had a huge following,” he said. “He’s going to be missed by the community and, of course, by all our listeners on the station.”
In addition to his love for music, Medel loved his country, his uncle said. “He was in the U.S. Marine Corps, and he was very proud of being in the Marine Corps and serving his country.”

Mexican American Council leaders shared their condolences via the organization’s Facebook page Monday afternoon.
“On behalf of the Mexican American Council, we are sending our deepest condolences to the Medel family. Frank ‘Sonny’ Medel was an amazing person that gave so much joy to our Great Lakes Bay Region! The entertainment that he gave us was amazing! RIP Sonny,” the post reads.
“He did a lot for the community to engage with our young people,” added Raymond Bobby DeLeon, president of the Mexican American Council. “It was not easy, but he was there. He gave 100% to our young people, so I’m very proud of that.”
