Career

Pittsburgh Steelers:

Haggans was selected by the Steelers in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draught. When the team released longtime starter Jason Gildon in 2004, he started to play regularly as a left outside linebacker.

In 2004, Haggans had six quarterback sacks, and in the regular season in 2005, he had nine. In Super Bowl XL, Haggans was second on the Steeler’s defence in tackles and had a sack to help the Steelers overcome the Seattle Seahawks. Haggans attained unrestricted free agency status in 2008.

Arizona Cardinals:

Haggans and the Arizona Cardinals reached a one-year contract agreement on March 26, 2008. His season came to an end on December 19 when he was placed on injured reserve due to a foot injury.

The Cardinals would make it to Super Bowl XLIII without Haggans, but they would lose to his former team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, 27-23.

Haggans, an unrestricted free agent in the 2009 offseason, was re-signed by the Cardinals on March 17 to a three-year deal. He would finish the season with 74 tackles, 5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles in 16 games. In 13 games in 2010, he recorded 47 tackles, 5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble.

To adopt the Pittsburgh Steelers style defense at Arizona, Ray Horton, who had been hired as the new Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator, met together again in 2011. On June 5, 2012, he re-signed with the Cardinals for 12 months.

San Francisco 49ers:

Haggans and the San Francisco 49ers reached a one-year contract agreement on September 2, 2012. The 49ers reached Super Bowl XLVII and concluded the 2012 NFL season with an 11-4-1 record, however, they fell to the Baltimore Ravens 34-31.

Retirement

Haggans was selected by the Steelers in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draught out of Colorado State. He played 13 NFL seasons, the first eight of which he spent in Pittsburgh. In 2006, he was a member of the team that won the Super Bowl XL. He gave up playing football in 2013.

As of the Steelernow 2019 interview with Haggans, he had been dividing his time between Pittsburgh, Denver, and Las Vegas since his retirement.

“I’m also doing some real estate and just being a dad and chilling out. … “I do some volunteer work at my former high school and help with the boosters at Colorado State too. I’m just happy and blessed to have put enough money away to be able to support my kids so they can do what makes them happy.”

“Going back to Pittsburgh to visit the team – it wasn’t like how other teams did it,”
