China coal mine collapse: Fourteen workers were killed when a coal mine in southwest China collapsed ten days ago, according to media reports on Sunday.
The bodies of the miners were recovered Sunday afternoon, according to the state-run Xinhua News Agency.
On February 25, the roof of a shaft at the Sanhe Shunxun coal mine in Guizhou province collapsed, trapping the workers.
The rescue operation was difficult because the roof caved in about 3 kilometres (1.9 miles) from the mine’s entrance, and the collapsed area was quite large, according to media reports.
An investigation into the cause of the accident was ongoing.
Despite repeated safety crackdowns, China’s coal mines are among the world’s deadliest, with regular explosions and gas leaks.

On Wednesday, hundreds of people worked to drain the coal mine in Shanxi province to save the men.
Authorities have detained seven suspects, and the mine owner is said to have fled, as they vow to crack down on illegal digging operations.
Rescuers discovered the bodies of two miners and rescued 20 others from a flooded coal mine in central China.
On Friday night, one more miner was still trapped underground.
According to state broadcaster CCTV, the first man was lifted from the pit in Xiaoyi, Shanxi province, at 2.15 pm on Friday, just hours after signs of life were confirmed by rescuers. He was rushed to the hospital and is said to be in stable condition.
