In an editorial series that explores the lives of individuals mentioned in well-known memes, KYM spoke with Kathy, the owner of Balltze, on August 6, 2020. Shiba inu dog Cheems was a native of Hong Kong, China. The tenderloin rose to fame as a result of a number of memes in which the letter n is substituted with the letter m to form statements, such as “it gives me amsity.” He was given the odd nickname “Cheems” in a Reddit chat due to his love of cheeseburgers, or cheemsburgers.

When she was just a year old, a loving family from Hong Kong adopted her and gave her the name Balltze. Balltze’s family used her charisma and individuality to build her own Instagram over time and with the help of social media, where the amusing photographs that at first revealed her fondness for hamburgers helped her gain fans.

Balltze didn’t become significantly more well-known until 2017 thanks to a cute picture in which she appeared to be having a little fun. She changed her name from Balltze to Cheems, a puppy that symbolizes the truth of many individuals in various circumstances.

On social media, the tenderloin has a strong online presence. It has 620,000 followers on Instagram alone, where its owners shared pictures of the activities they engaged in with the dog every day.

Goodbye Cheems!

On Friday, August 18, Balltze—better known as “Cheems”—the popular dog of memes passed away.

Balltze hasn’t had an easy year in 2022. Her pancreatitis diagnosis in May prompted an outpouring of well wishes from fans. Balltze underwent a treatment program that included a specific prescription diet, and by early June, she had completely recovered from the sickness.

Then, on June 2022, Balltze’s owner Kathy shared a tearful Instagram post informing followers that doctors had discovered a “black lump” on the Shiba Inu’s paw.

She wrote,

“Life has not been easy on Balltze over the past 2 months. After recovering from pancreatitis, a black lump is found on his front paw. After 3 veterinarians suggest and needle test, it was diagnosed as melanoma. Its the hardest decision to be made when Dr. said cutting his toe is the only way to save his life. Surgery was operated on last Thursday, the wound is recovering good so far. Good news is the vet called in today saying the final test result turns out the melanoma is not a spreading type and the bad tumour has been cut off completely. Ball is the bravest boy ever ❤️‍🩹 pardon me for being silent over the past 2 weeks, seeing all the DMs and comments caring for his health is heartbreaking. But I can finally say he’s in good health again ☀️”

The lump was identified as melanoma following a test. She continued by saying that Balltze underwent “life-saving” toe removal surgery on June 23, 2022.

Balltze is seen sitting in a stroller and sporting a donut around his neck in the two photographs that go along with the post, which has received over 48,000 likes in less than a day.

When Balltze’s melanoma was successfully removed, his biggest supporters throughout the world rejoiced.

Again ‘Cheems’ was diagnosed with cancer last month June 2023. ‘Balltze’s’ (his real name) family has provided information on his official account. ‘Cheems’ recently turned 17 and had a series of tests in Hong Kong, which found that he had cancer.

The post read,

“went to the clinic again last Wednesday, 640 ml of blood was drained from the pleura again. From the new x-rays doctor suspected that the tumor had expanded, but because the tumor is grow between the pleura and the lungs, she explained that it is very difficult to draw tissue for tube test, but from the symptoms and images she thought it is very likely to be cancer. I was struggling to tell you the news, as I have not been able to accept it myself.”

Despite the depressing prognosis, they did everything they could to care for him and seek out the most gentle and aggressive form of treatment, but despite this, he died during the procedure.

Its owners sent out a message to all of their fans encouraging them to never forget the internet’s most popular video with sadness.

The news was originally announced on their social networks. His owners asked the public not to be sad about her passing and to instead remember her with the joy that defined her through a post on his Instagram account that included a series of heartfelt words and pictures showing how happy the puppy was in life.

“Ball Ball fell asleep on 18/8.
He fell asleep on Friday morning during his last thoracentesis surgery. Originally, we wanted to arrange chemotherapy or other possible treatment for him after this operation, but it is too late now
don’t be sad, please remember the joy that Balltze brought to the world. A Shiba Inu with a round smiling face connecting you and me, he has helped many people during the pandemic and brought a lot of joy to many of you, but now his mission has completed. I believe he is running freely in the sky and having a lot of delicious food with his new friends. He will always be inside my heart. I hope he can continue to bring joy to everyone in the online world, that’s my only humble request
Also, I would like to thank the medical staff who had helped Balltze for the past 6 months Ken Just Walk 健步動物整合復健水療中心, Dr.Jessica and Dr.Tiffany
動物醫療學會醫院 AMAH they have done an amazing job for taking care of Balltze
all of you have been very generous and helpful, and I’m truly grateful to all of you, your love and support to Ball Ball is so unconditional and I found that is the purest love in the world, having Ball Ball in my life is the best thing ever happened
The donation and brass pins money I have collected for the medical bills will be now donating to local animal charities
Thank you everyone, thank you, Balltze knows how much he was loved by all of you.”

Cheems will never be forgotten. She embodied happiness and feeling rather than being merely a meme for everyone.
