Lee Banks, a bodybuilder, passed away on February 2 at the Mayo Clinic & Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. He was 51 years old.
His wife Lafayette Banks shared the devastating news on Facebook.
She wrote,
“With an unbearable sorrow and seemingly insurmountable grief I let you know that at Mayo Clinic & Hospital Jacksonville on Thursday, February 2, 2023, in the 2100 (9pm) hour, my greatest love earned his wings and returned his soul to the house of our LORD forever.
I only ask for time, time to come back to myself, to feel my legs under me, to comfort our children, to simply miss my husband, my love, my partner in all things, my sole provider and soul provider.
And then, with HIS DIVINE GRACE and your assistance, we will celebrate his talent, honor his gift, preserve his legacy, and continue his service for a lifetime.”

Lee first entered the ring in 2022, when he took part in the Heavyweight division of the 2002 NPC All South Championships and placed sixth. Lee Banks won the 2010 North American Championships heavyweight division and overall to receive the IFBB Pro Card after nearly eight years of participating in the NPC League. Then, up until 2013, he competed in the Men’s Open division. He took part in a number of Pro shows and finished in the top seven in the 2011 Orlando Pro, 2012, 2013, and 2013 Tampa Pro, as well as the 2013 Chicago Pro.
However, in the Classic Physique division, Lee produced some of his best work. With a second-place finish at the 2017 Chicago Pro, he made his divisional debut. He went on to put up excellent performances in the division and even placed in the top ten in the 2017 Olympia. He made his final stage participation in the 2019 Atlantic Coast Pro, where Lee finished in second place. Lee was not only a master professional bodybuilder but also a prosperous businessman. He established two early learning centers and ran a prosperous fitness center. Lee promoted the “Natural Gym Association,” a group for natural bodybuilders. Lee Banks was working on his event that will take place in May 2023 at the time of his passing. The profits from the program are intended to support cancer research.
