Bill Watson, also known as William Watson, was hit and killed last Friday at noon on Blackburn Road in the Astley Bridge neighborhood on December 16. Tragically, he passed away at the scene from his injuries.

The 80-year-old grandfather who perished in a car accident in Bolton was remembered by his family as a “proud family man.”

He was described by his relatives as “fiercely protective of all of his family” in their tributes to him. His family expressed the following with respect to him, saying, “William Watson, known to all as Bill, was taken from us on Friday, 16 December 2022 in tragic circumstances.

“He was a retired garage owner from Egerton, who was 80 years old and had spent the whole of his life there. He was a devoted partner and a very proud father.

“Watson loved walking, spending time in the Lake District, and traveling the world with his partner Jean. He was fiercely protective of all of his family, in particular his Grandchildren whom he loved greatly.

“He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.” William’s family has asked for privacy while they grieve their loss.

The terrible road traffic collision occurred around noon, and the junction surrounding Crompton Way was closed for several hours as a result of the tragedy.

Police, an ambulance, and firefighters are on the scene. The North West Ambulance Service stated in a press release at the time:”

“We were called at 12.41 pm to a road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian,” a North West Ambulance Service spokesperson said.

“We sent various resources, including an ambulance and an air ambulance.” Three accidents have occurred on Blackburn Road in the last four days.

Concerns raised following collision at major Blackburn Road intersection. As roadwork is being done, there have been appeals to make the intersection safer for users.

The plan to upgrade the junction is intended to lessen traffic, increase safety, and offer improved facilities for bikes and pedestrians. The GM Growth Deal Fund is providing the £1.0 million project’s funding.
