“The Verona Area School District experienced a deep loss today and our hearts are beyond broken.
This morning, Badger Ridge Middle School Principal Beth Steffen passed away as a result of a motor vehicle and pedestrian accident.
We extend our deepest condolences to Beth’s family and all Badger Ridge Middle School students, staff, and families. “

Beth Steffen cause of death was a car accident. She was struck by a car while walking in Fitchburg on Tuesday morning.
The accident occurred in the 2900 block of South Syene Road at about 6:30 in the morning.
According to a news statement from the police, the woman was treated at a local hospital before passing away. The car’s driver remained on the site and is helping the police with their investigation.
For nearly three and a half hours during the inquiry, South Syene Road was closed between McCoy Road and Ninebark Drive close to the accident location.

Who was Beth Steffen?
For the 2022–2023 academic year, Badger Ridge Middle School in Verona’s temporary principal was Beth Steffen, 56.
According to the Verona Press, she was appointed to that position after serving as a language, literacy, and equality specialist at the school. Steffen was the Edgewood High School principal from 2018 until her position in Verona.
She had various positions in MMSD for the 17 years prior to that change.
According to her LinkedIn page, she started out in Madison in 2001 as an English teacher at La Follette High School, a post she held up until 2008.
After eight years as a district-wide literacy coach, she later returned to La Follette as an assistant principal from 2016 to 2018.
