The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office reports that a deputy from Georgia named Tyee Browne passed away after getting shot by a suspect named Croshawn Cross during a traffic stop. Crisp County deputy Tyee Browne death: What happened?
Tyee Browne, a deputy of the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office, was shot early on Wednesday after stopping a car in the 1300 block of Highway 280 West. it took place around 3:40 a.m.,
According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect, Croshawn Cross, shot the deputy as he was moving closer to the suspect’s allegedly stolen automobile and then fled the scene.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, they received word that the deputy had been shot at roughly 4 a.m., and that a multi-county pursuit involving other deputies and the suspect, who was purportedly in the stolen deputy’s car, had begun.
Deputy Tyee Browne was seriously injured and was taken there by Crispy County EMS, where he was later declared dead.
Cross, the suspect, who was wanted for a number of burglaries, led police on a pursuit through many counties before being apprehended on Interstate 475 by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
They also found the stolen patrol vehicle. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office are both conducting investigations.

“It is with deep regret the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office announces the passing of an active-duty Sheriff’s Deputy.
Preliminary Information Released Officer-involved Shooting
A Crisp County Sheriff’s Deputy succumbed to injuries at Crisp Regional Hospital following an officer-involved shooting.
On Wednesday, July 5, 2023, around 3:40 A.M., a Crisp County Sheriff’s Deputy got out with a vehicle in the middle of the roadway in the 1300 Block of HWY 280 West, Cordele, Georgia. The vehicle came back stolen. After getting out with the vehicle, a Crisp County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot and critically injured. The suspect took the Deputy’s patrol car and fled the scene. Crisp County EMS transported the Deputy to Crisp Regional Hospital. The subject led law enforcement on a pursuit through multiple Georgia counties. Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested the subject on I475. They also recovered the stolen patrol unit. The GBI will conduct an independent investigation.”
The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office also published a video upon the incident.
Governor Brian Kemp expressed his sorrow for the passing of the policeman.
He wrote,
“Marty, the girls, and I are heartbroken by the loss of this@CrispCoSheriff’s Deputy and are thankful the killer is in custody where he will face justice. Please join us in praying for the Deputy’s family and the entire law enforcement community as we mourn this terrible loss.”
The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to each and every institution and group who intervened, made contact, or provided assistance. They also expressed gratitude to the numerous law enforcement agencies who sent representatives and expressed their condolences.

The deceased deputy is being transported back to Crisp County to Hughes & Wright Funeral Home (1010 E 8th Ave, Cordele, Georgia), according to the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office. At this moment, it will arrive about 1:20 PM.
They stated that they wanted to extend an invitation to the neighborhood to pay respects because they had received multiple calls from people expressing their support. People who want to take part are asked to queue on 8th Avenue next to the funeral home. They request that people refrain from blocking the route.
Brother of Crisp County deputy Tyee Browne, Kristina Browne Conley, expressed anguish and sorrow over Tyee’s passing.
He wrote,
“I don’t have the words right now but Evil has come to me, and has taken my pride and joy. Tyee Browne was my everything, how dare you, you fucking coward take him from us, please give my family prayers and God give me strength.”

It is our prayer that great comfort soon replaces the feelings of sadness and despair laid upon you all in this devastating time.”
