Tamang was the youngest of five children born to a family who served in the British Army and was born in Singapore. Tamang spent parts of his childhood living in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Brunei as a result of his father’s postings to various locations.
Jimi Hendrix and Deep Purple were inspirations for him while he was attending school in Singapore. Midway through the 1980s, while he was a student at Humber College in Toronto, he started his second band, Tamang, and played shows all over the city.
He went back to Nepal in 1996 to live with his father in Pokhara, where he also joined the rock group Looza. Looza performed with them for a while before breaking up in 2005.
Then he carried on and founded Robin and the New Revolution with additional musicians, including Rajesh on drums, Dipesh on guitar, Prabin on bass, and Tamang on vocals. They jointly published the hugely successful “Keta Keti” record, which garnered him a sizable fan base.
Despite being well-known and well-liked as a singer, he has acted in the gangster film “Chadke” in Nepal. He claims that acting and music are related to the natural human expression of emotion. Despite his appearance in a film, he has no plans to quit his job as a musician.

My sincere salute to the legend.
My friend….
I cannot stop crying. I was on a train back to Antwerp when this appeared on your FBpage and I first thought it was a sick joke. Alas. Not so.
The nights at the Bamboo Club, the jams with Mukti et all @ Sudesh’s place, inviting us to a family wedding where we met your dad, flying out with the band to Pokhara for the festival, meeting up in Bordeaux and hanging out with you & the inlaws,… And last time in 2017, in the Brixton Electric for Nepali New Year. It was so good to see you back and I would’ve hung with you on your birthday but my daddy died and I had to return to Belgium unexpectedly.
Rest in power, my friend. Godspeed.
My heart goes out to his girls, his family, and Rianne. Sending all my love in this dreadful dreadful time.
Nepal, you lost a very talented son.
My heart bleeds.
