Lucas teen Damon Mauk killed in crash

Over the weekend in Richland County, an automobile accident claimed the life of an 18-year-old male. According to an Ohio State Highway Patrol press release, it occurred just before 6:30 p.m. on June 24 in Monroe Township close to the junction of Mansfield Lucas and Rummel roads.

In a 1998 Ford Mustang, the driver, 18-year-old Damon Mauk, was traveling southeast on Mansfield Lucas Road when he lost control and veered off the road, colliding with a sign and a tree. He was delivered by ambulance to a medical facility in Mansfield, where he passed away.

Before his passing, Damon was a member of the Lucas Cubs Varsity Wrestling team in Oho. Moreover, Damon had just obtained his high school diploma, which signaled the start of an exciting new chapter before his passing. His demise is lamented by his loved ones and friends.

Please pray for my beautiful son. There was no light brighter than him. It should have been me. I didn’t even get to hold him. The loss is infinite. All I have left is memories. I can’t even comprehend this.

Damon asked me when he got his license if he should be an organ donor, I told him the choice was his. Turns out he donated everything, he cared for others right up until the end. I need to step away from this, my only son and existence for living.

Additionally, Lucas Cubs Varsity Wrestling posted the sad news on Facebook. They called Damon Mauk a “gentle giant” and said he had the largest heart and the sweetest voice.

Damon gave everything he had 110% in, according to the varsity wrestling team, and had accomplished a lot. However, the young wrestler’s team lamented the fact that he still had a lot of life to live. They asked that everyone remember Damon Mauk’s mother, his family, and the wrestling community in their prayers.

What was the cause of the accident?

The incident happened on Saturday at 6:22 p.m. in Monroe Township on Mansfield-Lucas Road near Rummel Road, according to the patrol, which released a statement about it on Tuesday.

According to troopers, a 1998 Ford Mustang driven by Damon Mauk, 18, was traveling southeast on Mansfield-Lucas Road at the time.

The patrol reported that Mauk lost control of the car, veered off the right side of the road, and collided with a tree and a sign. At the time, authorities claimed, he was the only person in the automobile.

The patrol said that after being taken to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital, Mauk passed away from his wounds. Mauk competed on the Lucas High School wrestling team and made it to the district tournament last year in the 285-pound weight division.

The collision is being investigated, according to Lt. Jason Murfield, commander of the Mansfield Post, on Tuesday afternoon.
