Dan Lippitt spent his entire life in Farmington Hills, Michigan, where he resided until his passing. He was regarded as one of Metro Detroit’s best photographers by many people. He completed his secondary studies at Andover High School. He attended Wayne State University to study photography.
He was nine years old when his cherished Grandmother Bea accompanied him to Florida to see Epcot Centre open. She gave him $30, which was a sizable sum of money in 1979, and told him to spend it whatever he liked. He entered the first gift shop he spotted, surrounded by toys and candy, and with two days to spend my money, he purchased a KODAK Pocket INSTAMATIC 20 Camera. On top of it was a rotating flash cube that sprang open as the film was wound. He paid $28 for it and was enthralled. He got that camera because he wanted to take images of what he was witnessing.
Dan spent the first eight years of his career as a photographer and has been featured in hundreds of newspapers all over the world. He uses his keen sense of documentary photography to capture compelling photographs of individuals in various environments. Nothing changed years later. He continued to be enthralled by life, and in particular, by people, and he longed to capture images.
