Andrew Oh, a well-known saxophonist, passed away. Let’s see how did the musician die and his cause of death in detail.

How did Andrew Oh die?

Andrew Oh, a World-class, Singaporean born- Saxophonist passed away today. His sudden demise has saddened the whole music community. Andrew’s friends and family were shocked by his death news.

Simone Waddell shared this sad news on a Facebook post, by sharing the following statement,

“A mighty, outstanding, professional, innovative, creative, and talented musician. Saxophonist, flutist, and aerophonist….all at a world-class level. It was always an honor to share the stage with the outstanding Andrew Oh.

The news of Andrew’s passing is a shock and deeply saddening for many, many people. I don’t have words for the magnitude of musical wealth he held.

On my first gig (and every time since) with Andrew, I truly felt like, “This must be a CD – that can’t be him playing live right now. It was so flawless. A sad and huge loss.”

Who was Andrew Oh?

Australian musician Andrew Oh, who was born in Singapore, was renowned for being a very talented saxophonist and flutist of the highest caliber. His musical experience includes four different continents. 

Andrew worked as a studio musician in Hong Kong for the majority of the 1970s and provided backup for a number of international performers, including Roberta Flack, Sammy Davis Jr., The Bee Gees, and The Drifters, to mention a few.

His creative playing may be heard on songs by bands as disparate as The Wynners and The New Topnotes, which are sure to be familiar to music enthusiasts who used to listen to locally produced music from the 1970s. 

Musical career:

In late 1979, Andrew signed a five-year contract with Italian vocalist Fred Bongusto. This made it possible for Andrew to collaborate with a wide range of artists when he was in Italy, including Tony Scott of the United States and Romano Mussolini, Roberto Gatto, Tulio DePiscopo, Jose Mascolo, Zucherro, and many more esteemed musicians. 

During this time, Andrew also served as a music instructor at Centro Teatro Attivo, a highly esteemed arts and drama school in Milan.

Oh has played and recorded with numerous Australian artists, including Tommy Emmanuel, Margaret Urlich, Marcia Hines, Daryl Braithwaite, Grace Knight, Anthony Warlow, Doug Williams, Doug Parkinson, Christine Anu, and many more.

He also worked with international musicians such as John Denver, Al Jarreau, Cher, The Supremes, Thelma Houston, Elaine Page, Alfio, Patricio Buane, and Josh Groban.

Studio Recordings:

The “SILK” album, which was recorded in Sydney with Devine Music, is one of his two solo albums. The other, also titled “Andrew,” was recorded in Nashville with Honest Entertainment.

Both albums garnered a lot of radio play both domestically and abroad and rave reviews. In addition, Andrew and Anders Nelsson collaborated on a CD that was distributed in China.

After a long absence, Oh reconnected with Anders Nelsson, an old friend and former bandmate, in late 2004 after the Swedish music industry veteran of Hong Kong discovered him online.

Amazingly, former Wynners drummer Antony Chan phoned Nelsson the following day to see if he could schedule Oh for some recording sessions connected to a drama series Chan was working on in Beijing.

Additionally, Andrew and Perry Martin recorded an album in Hong Kong in 2012. He performed session recording services for the majority of musical genres from the Sydney area.

Andrew can record your offsite session professionally and affordably. He had his own dedicated recording studio in Sydney and can record dry parts.

Andrew Oh cause of death:

The famous Saxophonist, Andrew, passed away on April 28, 2023. He had a heart issues and were in hospital recently. 

Anders Nelsson confirmed his friend, Andrew has passed away. The statement reads, “I’m devastated to hear that one of my best friends… passed away… Rest In Peace dear Andrew!”

An ex-saxophonist with The Establishment Mr. Oh became one with Nelsson’s Gingerbread. However, his official cause of death was revealed yet.

He was remembered as humble and talented man. Tributes flooded social media after his demise news broke out.

I have learnt to play the Saxophone and the Flute thanks to Andrew believing in me that you can learn anything at any age, he had given his time and wisdom to teach me .
My mentor, a humble man, an extraordinary talented Saxophonist, Flutist, Percussionist, a well respected JAZZ ARTIST by many. He was a professor of music and life.
