How did Rich Figurido die?

Rich Figurido of Essex, Massachusetts has sadly passed away on Thursday. Rich made a significant contribution to rock music and live performances by giving his audiences nothing but the best shows.

Wanted DOA announced this sad news on social media and the statement reads,

A sad day for all that knew and loved Rich. He was an entertainer like no other and was put on earth to be on stage. He 100% loved playing for his fans, both for him and for them.

Needless to say that all that knew him are devastated by this loss. We ask that you remember him for his passion for music and performing. In the end, he couldn’t win his fight against cancer but he gave more to those around him than he will ever know. God bless you Rich Figurido.

What happened to Rich Figurido?

Rich was diagnosed with stage 3b melanoma a few years back. He underwent various treatment and had a courageous battle with the cancer.

Back in October, Rich has experienced dull pain in the region where his kidney was removed, but doctors initially attributed it to a muscle strain because he resumed performing gigs a month after the operation.

But after several scans, it was identified that his melanoma has spread to his liver. He underwent various treatments and his friends and family supported him in his recovering process.

Unfortunately, Rich passed away on March 31, 2023. His friends and family members paid their heartfelt tribute as soon as his death news broke out.

Who was Rich Figurido?

Rich Figurido was the lead singer of Wanted DOA. His voice and talent served as a great source of inspiration for the young Rock artists.

He was the epitome of rock music, giving his fans so much at each performance. Rich was also a great frontman, singer, friend, family man, and peer-recognized in the music industry. He was an excellent performer who also cared for the music.

Figurido, a lifelong Essex resident, and his band make listeners feel as if they are in the company of rock royalty.

While describing his singing experience, Rich said,  “I love working for the crowd. I love the energy of being on stage. It’s a new crowd at a new venue every time, and trying to win that crowd over is a thrill. Every time we’re out there, we want to go big and put on a big rock show … with big music and big lights.”

Singing Career:

Figurido started as a musician while he was a student at Hamilton-Wenham High School. “I’ve been playing at bars since I was 16 years old,” he said, “I started as a drummer subbing in for local bands. Then, a neighbor and I started an original band, the Slyboyz.”

He then left his position as drummer and concentrated on becoming a vocalist after a few years of drumming and providing the band with mainly backup vocals.

Figurido and Moda joined up once more to create Mixed Nuts, an alternative rock cover band that played venues throughout New England and beyond. Figurido had some vocal training under his belt.

“We did that for seven years and had some success,” Figurido said. “But then I got into writing and performing my music.”

About Wanted DOA:

Wanted DOA was founded in 2015 and has performed extensively throughout the Northeast, from local venues such as Blue Ocean Music Hall in Salisbury.

In Tupelo Music Hall in Derry, New Hampshire; and Mixx 360 Nightlife in Malden to the heart of Bon Jovi country with shows in New Jersey and New York.

Wanted DOA, a band from Boston, describes itself as “America’s Truly Authentic Bon Jovi Tribute.”

The members of Wanted DOA are not impersonators, despite Figurido having a voice that unquestionably matches Jon Bon Jovi’s and bearing more than a passing similarity.

Rich Figurido cause of death:

Rich was told that he had stage 3b melanoma in September 2019. He began his treatment at Mass General Hospital with the aid of Dr. Howard Kauffman and his team at the cancer clinic.

His underarm lymph nodes and back tumor were removed. Melanoma was detected in two sites. While undergoing therapy, he continued to have scans every three months until a tumor reappeared in his axillary lymph nodes.

Around the sizable mass, 27 lymph nodes were surgically removed. Rich had scans that were clean for almost 11 months following a difficult recovery.

A GoFundMe was organized for Rich’s medical expenses. Rich’s cancer fight is being supported by a GoFundMe campaign created by FIGS FIGHT Friends and family on behalf of Richard Figurido to help with his condition, treatments, and surgery.

Sadly, Rich passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family members.

Following the death of Rich, Jon Bon Jovi paid a tribute saying,

I was lucky to have recently met Richie Figurido. He was the lead singer of Wanted DOA, a Bon Jovi tribute band. We spoke about our families, our bands and our mutual joy to make people happy singing Bon Jovi songs..and we also spoke about his illness. Sadly, Richie Figurido passed away today. Sending my love to his wife Sarah and his family.

You made me a Nonnie for the first time. You introduced me to your amazing family and made my daughter blissfully happy.

I’ll miss family dinners in the dining room, morning coffee and you looking at me after one of Emmy’s rants and saying “did you catch any of that”? You lived life to the fullest, you loved your children so much and made sure they new it, felt it, and saw it in every thing you did. Rest easy Rich Figurido, we have it from here.
