About Bryn Hargreaves
Bryn Hargreaves was born in Wigan and achieved his boyhood dream of playing in the Super League for the Warriors. He began his career with the Wigan Academy in 2002. His first team debut came from the bench against Salford City Reds in July 2004 and his full debut came later that year.
Hargreaves also won the 2008 Challenge Cup with St Helens before moving to America to work in the oil and gas industry 10 years ago. Wigan Warriors gave the prop a full-time contract and by the end of the 2004 season, Hargreaves had been awarded the Under-21s Billie Joe Edwards and Craig Johnson Memorial Player of the Year Trophy.
Although he was selected for the England U18s squad that toured Australia in 2004, he was requested to stay at home due to an injury crisis at Wigan. The rugby league world has been left devastated by the news.
Cause of Death-Bryn Hargreaves
The 37-year-old was reported missing in January 2022 and his brother recently announced:
“RIP Bryn Hargreaves. With incredible sadness I can confirm after 14 months we have finally found Bryn.
We still do not know the cause of death or what actually happened on 3/1/22. Thanks to all those that have helped in the search.” Hargreaves, who divorced his wife Amy in 2020 — played in Super League for Wigan, St Helens, and Bradford before moving to the States to work in the oil and gas industry at 26. The death of former Rugby League player Bryn Hargreaves has also been confirmed by his club, Wigan Warriors.
His former club tweeted: “Wigan Warriors are saddened to learn of the passing of former player, Bryn Hargreaves. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”
Bryn Hargreaves’s body found
The brother of missing rugby player Bryn Hargreaves was the first to share news of his body being found. A body was found in woodland near the US home of Hargreaves, according to the Mail. Mr. Hargreaves, who lived in Virginia in the US, was reported missing in January 2022 after failing to show up for work.
A major search by police and tracker dogs began in West Virginia. He is said to have last spoken to his family on 3 January 2022, nine days before police were contacted.
After being missing for 14 months, Gareth Hargreaves posted on Facebook to notify the former player’s passing.
Bryn was found over a year after he went missing for 14 months
Thomas Kingsley has more on the initial reaction to news of Mr. Hargreaves’ body being found: The body of former British rugby league player Bryn Hargreaves has been found more than a year after he went missing, his family has confirmed.
It was then sent to the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office for a post-mortem and positive identification.
His later club, the Bulls, also took to Twitter to say: “We are extremely saddened to learn the body of former player Bryn Hargreaves has been found. Our thoughts and condolences are with Bryn’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
The family provides odd details regarding the disappearance of a rugby player.
We still don’t know how Bryn Hargreaves passed away or where his body was discovered, so we’re waiting for additional information from the police. His family was confused by his abrupt disappearance and the lengthy search for his remains. Speaking to the PA agency in June 2022, Gareth Hargreaves said: “Bryn had mental health issues and was in severe pain with his back from a car accident in December. “He’d also been away from his family at Christmas. “The most likely scenarios were that he decided to harm himself or had decided to disappear for a bit and come back. “But five months on, those two possibilities look less likely because you’ve got to think a body would turn up.” “We had his bank account inspected by the police, which indicated there had been no withdrawals, and his wallet, ID, and passport are all still in his flat, so he had no access to his money and no ID to fly,” he continued. “Then you start to consider the second scenario, which is that he didn’t intend to go missing and that someone had a hand in it—possibly by kidnapping or something similar. “You begin to consider all the odd things that come to mind, and they begin to accumulate. The door to his flat was closed but unlocked when the cops arrived, and the shower was still running. “And on the night of his disappearance, he had ordered a couple of bottles of gin from a mail order firm to be delivered in the next day or two.” |
‘Heartbroken’ mother pays tribute to ‘beautiful son’
Bryn Hargreaves’ mother has also shared her thoughts following the discovery of her son’s body. Posting to Facebook, Maria Andrews said she was “heartbroken” by the news.
“Not something I wanted to be sharing,” she wrote. “I’m in bits #heartbroken my beautiful son Bryn I can’t think of any words to describe the pain xx.”
Chairman Eamonn McManus said: “Bryn was extremely well-liked and respected by his teammates and all involved with the club during his four seasons with us from 2007 to 2010.
