How did Susan Carberry die?
Susan Carberry, a famous cake artist from California, passed away on February 5, 2023. She had battled stage-four brain cancer for more than a year and sadly passed away.
Her demise news was announced by her brother Pete and her friends paid tribute to her on social media.
Evelyn Montero paid tributes, saying,
“With Heavy Heart I received very Sad news; the passing of Very Talented, Sugar Artists Chef Susan Carberry.
Rest in Peace Sweet Friend! My Deepest Condolences to her family and Thousands of friends.”
Susan’s cancer battle:
The Cake Cottage posted a social media post about Susan’s fight with cancer on October 25, 2022.
Susan Carberry, an owner of The Cake Cottage in Murrieta, California, discovered that she had a brain stem glioma in her spinal cord in April 2021. She started her cancer treatment immediately.
Getting the right medical attention, including the testing and required scans, so her doctors could figure out what they were dealing with, took a long time.
Her Covered California health insurance has consistently refused to cover adequate medical care. But in July 2021, her surgery was finally approved after a painfully long wait.
Susan, her family, and close friends were advised by her doctor that it would be a risky surgery as the tumor was present at the base of her spinal cord and below the brain stem.
Thankfully, Susan survived the surgery, but there were numerous difficulties, including the fact that her entire right side was paralyzed.
Physical therapy took months, yet there was still no change. Susan, who is a champion, continued making wedding cakes, cupcakes, and sweets while learning to use her non-dominant left hand.
“We all had high hopes of the cancer being 100% removed, but unfortunately, this was not the result,” the post reads.
Also, a Gofundme page was set up to assist her with finance.
Susan Carberry Cause of death:
Sugar Artist Chef Susan Carberry Carberry passed away after a battle with stage 4 brain cancer.
Peggy Tucker announced her death by paying her a tribute saying,
As many of you know, Susan Carberry has been battling stage four brain cancer for over a year now.
Early this morning her brother Pete let me know that our fun-loving, beautiful sugar sister went home to start new adventures and to keep an eye on all of us. I’d imagine she’s going to be keeping two eyes on me. I am ever so grateful to have had such an amazing friend and to shared so many fabulous memories together.
So today our industry lost yet again another icon. She brought so much to our industry through her teaching, sharing, and many beautiful cakes. She brought all of us joy by just being in a room and will be deeply missed.
Please feel free to share your memories/pictures of Susan as I know her brother Pete will be comforted in knowing how many lives Susan touched.
Celebration of life is scheduled for March 10, which is Susan’s birthday, please keep her brother Pete and her dad Mike in your prayers.
Cheers until we meet again my friend.
