Florida teacher Donna Barber resigns after explicit video conversations with her prison inmate. Let’s see, who is Donna Barber in detail.
Who is Donna Barber?
After the local sheriff’s office learned that a Florida teacher had been having explicit video conversations with her prison partner during school hours, the teacher was fired.
Donna Barber, 52, was told she would most certainly be fired from her position at the Franklin County School District, but she chose to resign this week. After working as a teacher for 30 years, she was almost ready to retire.
Franklin County Sheriff A.J. Smith designated a staff member earlier this month to keep an eye on convicts’ prison video conversations.
The staff member discovered that Barber had participated in sexual talk and had been undressed during some of her chats with Lawrence Ray, an inmate.
What happened?
Prior video chats between the couple revealed Barber was having similar explicit video conversations with Ray and that some were done from her school office during the workday.
Jail is not a resort,” according to the Smith.
“People in jail need to abide by the rules, you have to have order. Otherwise, you can have chaos, and it can be dangerous for the staff that has to deal with the inmates.”
Smith first shared a video on Facebook earlier this month about his concerns regarding inappropriate correspondence between prisoners and their visitors, citing Barber’s instance. However, the video was removed off by the sheriff because it provoked offensive comments.
The state attorney for the area concluded no criminal charges should be filed, but after Smith made the video public, Barber’s school launched an investigation.
The school expanded its investigation after learning that the calls took place on campus after first being unaware that they had. Barber made the decision to quit after learning this week that the school board would recommend her removal.
Smith observed that because they require less personnel than in-person visits, prison video chats have been more popular in recent years.
