He shared memory with his mom during the interview. When Michael was in his early twenties in the 1980s, his mother objected to him filming Back to the Future at night and Family Ties during the day. Michael, however, disregarded her counsel and went on to accept both roles, which he now acknowledges left him feeling tired.
He told the people at Comic-Con that when he was 23 years old, he called his mom in Canada and said, “They want me to do this Steven Spielberg movie, but I have to do Family Ties in the daytime.” And she said, ‘You’ll be too tired,’” the Canadian-American recalled.
Michael allegedly replied to his mother: “I live for this kind of tired. It’ll be okay.” He said: “To this day — well, till two weeks ago — my mother thought it was a really bad idea for me to do Back to the Future. “She loved the movie, but she was right, I got tired.

Who is Phyllis Fox?
Phyllis was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1929. Phyllis had two Daughters Jackie and Kelli and sons Steve and Michael. Phylis had nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter. She “took a special interest in promoting awareness for Diabetes and Parkinson’s Disease, as well as working on the board of the Michael J Fox Theatre in Burnaby. In exchange for flowers, the family asked that donations be sent in Phyllis’ memory. The family asked to make donations to Diabetes and Parkinson’s disease and at Burnaby General Hospital and BC Children’s Hospital.
The Piper family relocated to British Columbia in the 1930s under the guidance of Philip’s father, Henry “Skip” Piper, a World War I soldier and customs agent. She adored Patricia, her sister, and her three brothers, Kenneth, Stuart, and Albert (all WWII POWs). Phyllis was a competitive student-athlete.
She stayed in Ladner after graduating and began working for the Ladner Optimist. She met William “Bill” Nelson Fox, a young soldier who worked at the adjacent Vancouver Wireless Station, there.
After getting married in 1950, they soon had a daughter named Karen and a boy named Mark who died as a newborn. Steven, Jackie, Michael, and Kelli were the next kids. Philip’s grandchildren include James Westbury, Richard Westbury, Geoff, Kristin Marsden, Kyle, Matthew, Sam, Aquinnah, Schuyler, and Esmé; her great-grandchildren are Chelsea, Megan, Devin, Jesse, Kaylee, Ethan, Kaitlin, Piper, Leo and Joey; and great-great-granddaughter Saige. Before her death, she was delighted by the news of one granddaughter’s impending marriage, and of another great-great grandchild expected early next year. Nothing made her happier than watching her family grow.
