Why is Slack Down for Some Users?

Slack, Peloton, and other websites appear to be down.

Slack, a workplace chat system, and other websites were having issues Tuesday morning, according to users.

According to user reports on Down Detector, AWS, Peloton, and Github are also experiencing problems.

It was unclear what was causing the problems, or if they were related.

“Teams are aware of and researching the problem,” Company told Insider.

While there were several claims of outages on Down Detector, there were no difficulties on the AWS service status page. According to an Amazon spokeswoman, the firm isn’t seeing any issues as a result of its AWS services.

AWS, Amazon’s web-hosting arm, supports vast portions of the internet and may bring them down with it when it goes down.

In December, the app had three outages, one of which was particularly severe and created issues for Slack, Coinbase, and other services.

Many people were making jokes about the outages on Twitter, especially about Slack, which can create a “snow day” for many professionals when it goes down.

Why does Slack keep on reconnecting??

On a 300Mbps Internet connection, I had to troubleshoot this issue.

It turns out that a network delay of more than 120 milliseconds causes the Slack client to disconnect and reconnect. Take this test. Ping Google’s DNS server on a regular basis. The “time” should be rather consistent, but if it suddenly jumps to 120ms+ every now and then, it’s the kind of network delay that will cause your Slack client to time out and reconnect.

Surprisingly, this issue was not present on Youtube at 1080p 60fps. This was not an issue with Skype VOIP. Ooma VOIP, on the other hand, had the same issue as Slack and would drop calls if there was a single example of a 120ms+ delay.

What was the solution? By default, the router my ISP handed me had a setting that filtered all material (no, not talking about NAT). This caused a delay every 1–2 minutes, according to reports. You won’t notice any issues if you’re just browsing the web and viewing YouTube videos. When using Slack or Ooma, though, you’ll see disconnects every 1–2 minutes. I disabled network filtering and relied only on my firewall for content screening. The issue has been resolved.

So, first and foremost, evaluate your network latency. It has overcome most of its growth issues and is really reliable. However, it demonstrates that not all programs are created equal. Skype VOIP is a master at dealing with network delays.

How to Fix Slack when it is down?

Slack should be restarted, updated, or reinstalled.

If you’re still having problems, try updating the app as normal (for example, using the Mac App Store or Windows Store). If you use the app on your phone, you should update the Android or iPhone app. Slack’s desktop app cache may help too.
