“Our family is heartbroken at the loss of our beloved Warwick,” Mandy Tollemache wrote. “He was a kind, beautiful, and gentle soul who was adored by everyone who knew him.”

Just hours after the search was put on hold, the family of an Australian man who fell overboard from a cruise ship earlier this week has released a heartbreaking memorial.

The man who fell from the Quantum of the Seas into the Pacific Ocean late on Tuesday night, around 1400 kilometers south of the Hawaiian Islands, has been identified as Warwick Tollemache, 35, of Brisbane.

The search picked back up the following day as the Royal Caribbean-operated ship, which had departed Brisbane on April 12 for its final destination of Honolulu.

Brisbane-born Fisherman from Warwick Tollemache loved the outdoors and adventure. On Tuesday, however, tragedy struck when the 35-year-old fell overboard while sailing around the Hawaiian Islands.

Before stopping the search due to large swells, the US Coast Guard spent a day searching the ocean for tollemache from the air and the sea. Mr. Tollemache was an avid fisherman who frequently shared photos of his catches and love of nature on social media.

After discussions with Mr. Tollemache’s family and the Australian Consulate, the decision was made. Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator Kevin Cooper issued a statement saying, “The Coast Guard Has Made The Difficult Decision To Suspend The Active Search For The Passenger Aboard The Quantum Of The Seas.”

The family of Mr. Tollemache is receiving assistance from the Department of Foreign Affairs. A spokesperson stated, “The Australian Consulate-General in Honolulu Is Working Closely With Local Authorities.”

Since then, the Quantum of the Seas has docked in Kona on Hawaii’s Big Island, allowing passengers to spend time ashore.

TRAGIC CRUISE SHIP TIMELINE

On April 12, the cruise ship Quantum of the Seas sails from Brisbane with a stopover in Tahiti en route to Honolulu, Hawaii. An Australian Man Falls Overboard From The Cruise Ship Into The Pacific Ocean on April 25, 11 pm (Local Time), 1400 km South of Hawaii.

The ship abruptly stops as a desperate nighttime search is launched. The Quantum of the Seas is still traveling while a thorough air and sea search is being conducted by the US Coast Guard as of April 26 at 1.30 a.m. local time.

The US Coast Guard spends the day searching the ocean on April 26 (local time). The search was “almost impossible” due to the massive swells.

In six hours, a C-130 Hercules aircraft conducted five searches while issuing a radio call-out to all ships in the Pacific Ocean south of Hawaii to keep an eye out for the missing man.

Following discussions with the man’s family, the Australian Consulate, and other authorities on April 27 local time/April 28 AM AEST, the US Coast Guard suspends the search for the missing man overboard.

Warwick Tollemache, 35, a Brisbane resident, was later identified as the man in a heartbreaking statement from his family.

While some passengers have praised the way the crew of the ship handled the tragedy, many others have called the atmosphere on board sombre.

The situation is shocking, According to Susan Whittington, Nine News. ‘Couldn’t Really Fathom What Happened,’ a second man added. After stopping at the Pacific island of Tahiti, the ship was scheduled to dock in Honolulu on Friday.

The ship departed Brisbane on April 12. The ship will still dock in Honolulu on Friday local time, as planned. Crews were collaborating with local authorities, according to Royal Caribbean Cruises. The company stated, “Out of Respect For The Family, We Will Not Share Further About This Unfortunate Event.”
