Thomas Stegman,SJ death: Dean and Professor at the Boston college of theology, cause of death explained

Thomas Stegman, SJ passed away at the age of 60 after a battle with cancer. Let’s see more details about Thomas Stegman and his cause of death in detail.

How did Thomas Stegman die?

Thomas Stegman, SJ, the Jesuit priest, New Testament scholar, and former Dean of the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry. Tom died this morning at Campion Center, the Jesuit infirmary in Weston, Mass. He had been suffering from cancer for many months, and in January of last year stepped down as dean of STM, though he continued to be active in the school and the academy. He was 60.

Great Men of Great Passion, Learned, Spiritual, transcending to Oneness in and through Christ. A great loss for all who have been affected by his great love.

Cause of death

Thomas Stegman Passed away at the age of 60 after a long battle with glioblastoma cancer. The public noticed how bravely, dignifiedly, and tenaciously he handled his cancer. Tom held onto his position as dean throughout his medical treatments and only quit when it became untenable for him to do so. Although I am aware that everyone approaches illness differently and that not everyone is able to function while ill, Tom’s fortitude inspired me much.

A beautiful tribute to Father Stegman

one of the kindness and most generous Jesuits I’ve ever known. Thomas was the kind of Jesuit the mention of whose name always brought an affectionate smile to people’s faces. He was a beloved dean, a beloved professor, a beloved priest, a beloved Jesuit, and just a beloved person. Tom was also a superb scholar, whose career focused on the writings of St. Paul.

All who knew him to see great meaning in his death on Holy Saturday, just hours away from the great feast of Easter, which he will now celebrate with the Lord. Michael Boughton, SJ, the Rector of the Faber Jesuit Community at Boston College said today: “Tonight at the Easter Vigil the Church reminds us that we are remembering the night in which our Lord Jesus Christ passed over from death to life. May we all be filled with the sure and certain hope that Tom will now share Christ’s triumph over death, and live with him forever in God.” There will be many tributes to Tom by people who knew him better than I did, but let me just say two things about my Jesuit brother and friend, one public and one private.

Just a few months ago, in fact, I asked if he would be willing to write for our Outreach LGBTQ website. I knew that Tom was sick but also knew (from him) that he wanted to stay active while he was living at Campion Center. He answered immediately and sent along a passage from a commentary on St. Paul that he had written and updated. Like everything else he wrote, it is a model of clarity and compassion

Thomas To Step Down Amid Battle with Cancer

Thomas D. Stegman is stepping down as dean of the School of Theology and Ministry (STM) at the end of the spring semester due to his ongoing battle with glioblastoma, according to a University release.

Stegman announced his resignation to the STM faculty in a December letter, according to Margaret E. Guider, O.S.F., the chair of the ecclesiastical faculty and an associate professor of missiology at the STM.

“He didn’t just wait for the University announcement,” she said. “Tom wanted the people who he knows he matters to and the people who matter to him to be informed about his resignation before it became a public statement.”
