The famous soccer player, John Moeti passed away on Monday morning, according to a statement from his family. He had fallen ill recently.
Victor Rakhale, the family spokesperson, released the following statement on behalf of the Moeti and Rakhale family:
“It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we inform you of the passing of John “Dungi” Moeti.”
“John suddenly took ill eight months ago and was receiving specialist medical care.
John succumbed to his illness in the early hours of this morning (6th February 2023) at home, surrounded by his family and brethren in prayer.
We thank you sincerely for your prayers and steadfast support.”
Who was John Moeti?
John was an Orlando Pirates’ midfielder and captain. He also played for SuperSport United.
Moeti made 29 appearances for Bafana Bafana between 1995 and 1999, scoring one goal.
He won the CAF Champions League in 1995 when the Pirates defeated the ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast in the championship match.

John Moeti, a 1996 African Cup of Nations champion for Bafana, died at the age of 55.
