Tharaka Nithi is mourning the death of former Maendeleo Chap Chap gubernatorial candidate Felix Gitari Mbiuki who was found dead today in the morning.

Today, the former Machakos County Clerk and Tharaka Nithi politician was discovered shot to death inside his car in Kanyuambora, Embu County.

After the news of the popular politician’s passing caught on like wildfire and started trending, there are rumors in the media that he committed suicide. Let’s see what happened to him and Gitari Mbiuki cause of death here.


What happened to Gitari Mbiuki?

A politician was discovered dead in his car on Wednesday in Kanganga village, Embu County, sparking speculation that he may have committed suicide.

Felix Gitari Mbiuki, a 60-year-old former candidate for governor of Tharaka Nithi, mysteriously died, and police in Mbeere North are looking into it. Gitari died from a gunshot wound to the head, and investigators believe he committed suicide with a firearm.

The heartbreaking finding of Mr. Felix Gitari Mbiuki Kararwa, a well-known Tharaka Nithi politician and former Machakos County Clerk, shook Embu County today.

In Kanyuambora, the candidate for governor in the most recent general election was discovered shot to death inside his car. The community has responded to the news with shock and grief.  

Locals in Kanganga, Embu County, started to become suspicious when they saw Mr. Gitari’s car sitting there for a while.

They discovered him laying still with a gunshot wound to the head upon closer scrutiny. The dead body was brought to the mortuary for further investigation after the authorities were promptly notified. 

Professor Erastus Njoka, who was running for the same position in the Jubilee Party but lost to Governor Muthomi Njuki of the UDA Party, also corroborated the reports of his death.

Professor Erastus Njoka described Hon Felix Gitari Mbiuki as a man who dedicated his life to serving the people of Tharaka Nithi County in his condolence letter on his Facebook page.


Did Gitari Mbiuki commit suicide?

The politician Gitari Mbiuki, 60, was discovered with severe head injuries and a revolver with eight rounds of ammunition close to his chest.

His pocket contained a wallet with Sh35,000 in it. Family members claim that Mbiuki left his house on Monday and never came back.

When he didn’t return calls on his phone, they began looking for him. They hurried to Mbeere after hearing that he had been discovered there to confirm that he was the right person.

According to reports, he shot himself in the right ear below, and the bullet departed his body through the left eye. Early in the morning, the residents saw his automobile, but when they peered through the window, they discovered the politician dead in the driver’s seat.

“We came across the Toyota double cabin car parked on the roadside and when we looked inside, we were shocked to find a dead man,” said one of the residents.

The police were called when the residents reported the incident, and they arrived quickly and transported the body to the mortuary. “After what occurred in our village, we are still in disbelief.

The deceased is a stranger to us, and it appears that he committed suicide, according to one of the locals, Mr. John Kithu. Around two in the morning, the lawmaker is believed to have shot himself for unidentified reasons.

The circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated, according to Mbeere North Sub-County Police Commander Eric Yego. “It is true that the man was found dead in his car. We are trying to find out what happened to him,” he said.

About Gitari Mbiuki’s service to the community

Mr. Mbiuki served as the Clerk of the defunct County Council of Masaku among other County Councils.

It happened before being appointed by the transition authority and confirmed by the County Assembly Service Board (CASB) as Clerk of the County Assembly of Machakos in 2013 after Devolution.

He worked for the Assembly until 9th February 2022 when he took an early retirement to venture into active politics in the gubernatorial race in Tharaka Nithi County.

Mr. Mbiuki served with dedication and distinction during his time as the esteemed Assembly Clerk. He was a pillar of wisdom, guidance, and integrity, and his leadership played a pivotal role in shaping the Assembly’s growth and progress.

His commitment to public service and tireless efforts in ensuring the smooth functioning of the Assembly will forever be remembered and cherished. Mr. Gitari was hailed by both lawmakers for his moral leadership and commitment to helping Tharaka Nithi County. 

Mr. Mbiuki leaves behind a legacy of excellence that will continue to inspire many in their work and dedication to serving the people of Machakos County.

The community mourns the passing of a great leader and patriot as authorities launch their inquiry into this unfortunate tragedy, leaving a vacuum in Tharaka Nithi County that will be challenging to replace.
