“The Committee of Feis Dhoire Cholmcille is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Fr Kevin Mullan. “
The news of Fr. Mullan’s passing was described as “heartbreaking” by Feis Registrar Ursula Clifford.
“My own mother, Sibeal Sharkey, was like a second mother to him. I’m heartbroken. He had a great passion for the dancing at the feis and keeping it going as well as organising the rest of the disciplines.”
Feis Secretary, Aisling Bonner added:
“Fr Kevin was instrumental in keeping Feis Dhoire Cholmcille alive through some very dark days in this city and his love for it never diminished even when his clerical duties saw him move to Drumquin which was close to his native town of Omagh.
On behalf of the Committee of Feis Dhoire Cholmcille I want to express our sincere condolences to Fr Kevin’s family circle, his clerical colleagues and his wide circle of friends. To say that his experience, knowledge and wisdom is relation to the feis will be greatly missed, is a vast understatement.”

As a newly ordained priest at St. Patrick’s in Pennyburn, he was requested to take over the reins from the late Fr. Willie McGaughey, which marked the beginning of his relationship with the feis. His experience competing in the feis as an Irish dancer made him a qualified candidate for the position of feis secretary.
In November 2020, Fr. Kevin Mullan, the Drumquin parish priest, announced his retirement. He was highly recognized and regarded for his intercommunity and ecumenical work, and he generously gave care and assistance to individuals who were harmed by the Market Street bombing in 1998.
Fr. Mullan expressed his choice in the parish newsletter as being a “sad one,” but he appreciated the locals for the “hospitality in their hearts” that they had shown him over his many years of residence.

“You are so easy and pleasant to work with and you come forward when help is required or form those various groupings that make the parish run smoothly.”
“Together, we have made developments that should see the parish some distance into the future.”
