DJ Deeon Boyd passed away Unexpectedly. He was regarded as the first true master of ghetto dance music by Chicago DJs and people all over the world. Many people must be curious to know the DJ Deeon cause of death in light of the recent news. Keep reading to know more about DJ Deeon and his cause of death in detail.

Who was DJ Deeon?

One of the forerunners of Chicago House music, DJ Deeon aka Debo G is widely regarded as the father of the Ghetto House movement from the early 1990s.

His true name is Deeon Boyd, and in 1994, while still residing in Southside Chicago, he begins performing with DJ Milton and meets Ray Barney, the head of the legendary label Dancemania.

Deeon provides him with his first works, which immediately become the anthems of an entire generation and serve as an example to many other producers throughout the world.

From “Let Me Bang” to “Work This MF” to “Akcler 8” or “House’O’Matics,” he established himself as a living legend of house music, equally at home in front of the microphone as in the studio.

Deeon began his career modestly on Chicago’s south side before becoming known as Chicago DJ and the world over as the first master of ghetto dance music.

He held house parties in the projects and sold DJ mixtapes in the parking lot where he lived. The atmosphere and inspiration for the music Deeon created—which he simply describes as “for the strippers, for the street”—came from these crowded living room gatherings.

Deeon created music he simply refers to as “for the strippers, for the street” in response to the feeling and inspiration he received from these crowded living room parties.

While songs from Dance Mania like “Accelerate” were successful abroad, local Chicago clubs didn’t support or play much of his music. “Chicago house’s stepchild,” according to Deeon, is the ghetto.

The clubs eventually had to give in and play his CDs due to the astounding response to his music. In clubs all across the world, these “techno with a ghetto edge” tracks have made their way to the decks.

Deeon found a home on the Dance Mania record label in Chicago, where he put out singles including “3 Fine Hoes,” “Work Dis MF,” “Da Dick Suck,” and “House O Matic.”

Deeon ended up putting out about 30 singles for Dance Mania over four years, and he has since continued to build on his timeless compositions with new tracks and DJ sets that capture the unadulterated essence of ghetto house.

Deeon connects the dots between traditional ghetto houses and more recent wild varieties of house and techno on RA.510. But regardless of the period, a swinging spirit of abandon unites these songs.

After a much too long period of silence, he has returned with Debo G Chronicles Volume 1, a new project that demonstrates his continued importance to the global club scene.

Five precise and pertinent music from the genres of booty bass, juke, and ghetto house that will get people moving.

Big Debo personified the Ghetto Music spirit of Chicago with his consistency, growth, and adherence to the original sound. With his approach, Dj Deeon was a true “survivor” who continued to make dancefloors sweat.

DJ Deeon cause of death

We regret having to let you know that DJ Deeon has died. In 2002, DJ Deeon started his continuing struggle with health issues.

DJ Deeon posted an update on Facebook on July 14, 2023, asking for everyone’s prayers.

The renowned Chicago house producer posted a photo of himself wearing breathing apparatus with the caption:

“PRAY FOR ME🙏PLEASE, 🤟”

Even though he remained silent about what had happened to him, it was well-known that he had struggled with his health in the past.

The innovative producer has openly discussed his health issues before; after having a string of strokes in 2020, he was obliged to turn to his fans to cover his income loss.

In the Crowdfunder post, DJ Deeon describes his medical struggles, including a quadruple bypass heart surgery, Pneumonia, cancer and chemotherapy, and the amputation of one of his legs, which have hampered his musical career.

DJ Deeon Boyd said on the fundraising page: “Fast forward six months and here we are, The COVID epidemic removed any chance of earning from gigs, the state took away my disability benefits long ago due to me earning from touring and the minute royalty checks just about covered my outstanding bills. Im not one to ask for help – it doesn’t sit comfortably with me –  and i believe you should never get something for nothing so here I am offering to you what I can. Unreleased remixes, Back Catalogue Material, Exclusive Merch, Video messages, Remixes you name it.”

DJ Deeon disclosed in 2022 that a heart infection kept him in the hospital’s intensive care unit. He posted a photo of himself on a respirator on Facebook with the caption: “In hospital, amputation, Pneumonia, NOW ICU. With heart infection. Wishing you well. AND ASKING FOR PRAYERS PLEASE.”

Additionally, he said that he had a minor stroke on Boxing Day 2018 and that since then, he has had numerous other mini-strokes.

His music career has been affected by these health issues, which have forced him to postpone performances while he recovers, and which have been made worse by the coronavirus pandemic’s impact on the economy.

The Low-End Legend continued to be highly productive despite his poor health, regularly releasing music via his Bandcamp up until as recently as May 27th of this year.

He kept coming up with new ideas and changing his look as well. He made his debut on the Chicago label Teklife in 2021 with the “Destiny” EP, which had four tracks and created “a bridge between Deeon’s raw early ghetto house sound and a more modern pallet.”

DJ Rashad, a personal friend of Deeon, helped co-found the label. On the song “Work It,” he worked with UK DJ Dance System in the same year.

The news of DJ Deeon’s passing has understandably devastated his family and friends, and condolences have poured in from all over the neighborhood. Many people have expressed their sympathies and offered support to DJ Deeon’s loved ones on social media during this difficult period.

Tributes to DJ Deeon

Following the news of his demise, tributes have been made to the extremely influential DJ and producer.

DJ Jerome Hill wrote: “Saddened to hear about DJ Deeon, though I knew he’d not been well. An absolute pioneer of Ghetto House/Techno and someone whose records I’ve played a lot over the years. ‘House-O-Matic’ and ‘Da Bomb’ on Dance Mania were particular anthems for me in the 90s and it’s been great watching his sound leave Dance Mania and go truly global, from Charlie Hall’s Projex label to Godfather’s Databass and beyond. Rest in Peace to a real legend.”

DJ Mad/Silvertank wrote: “What a loss…. RIP to the one and only Dj Deeon Ghetto House pioneer And the creator behind some of the hardest, horniest, freakiest and most fun bangers u will hear on a dancefloor”
