Boat Crash: Brianna Joy found dead
Authorities reported that a body was found after a boat struck a break wall and capsized in Lake Michigan close to Navy Pier on Friday morning, injuring six more people.
At around 2:40 a.m., a boat carrying seven adults was making its way back to shore when it may have collided with a break wall and capsized, according to Chicago police.
Four women and two men were pulled from the water by the CPD Marine Unit and CFD after they arrived on the scene.
Two men ages 38 and 40, and four women, ages 21, 22, 27, and 31, were transported in good condition to Stroger and Northwestern Memorial hospitals.
The deceased woman was identified as Chicago resident Briana Joy Burden, age 20, by the Cook County Medical Examiner.
Until a body was discovered at around 10 a.m. close to the scene of the accident, police and fire crews continued to search the lake for the missing woman, who was about 20 years old.
Photos and video taken at the location revealed a sizable presence of emergency responders as teams searched for the missing person in the midst of torrential rainstorms, lightning, and thunder.
Later, CFD said that the investigation of the event had been turned over to the Chicago Police Department.
EMS Plan 1 for the boat in distress has been secured. 6 total transports. The scene has been turned over to CPD for recovery. CFD companies returning.

According to Chief Juan Hernandez of the Chicago Fire Department, the group was coming to shore when the boat struck the break wall off the 600-800 block of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
The Playpen is a well-liked summertime gathering place for boaters in Chicago, tucked away in a neighbourhood between the beaches on Oak Street and Ohio Street.
Authorities statement:
The incident serves as a regrettable reminder of the need for boaters to pay attention to their surroundings when out on the water.
Due to hazardous conditions, including heavy waves, police divers were initially unable to rescue the woman’s body, a marine officer claimed. In roughly 200 yards, “due northeast of the Jardine Water Plant,” divers discovered her “pinned” beneath the 31-foot vessel.
The badly decomposing body of a man was discovered close to Navy Pier as authorities were responding to the emergency.
The officer stated, “A fisherman contacted me at 8:30 in the morning. Between the Chicago locks and Navy Pier, close to Dime Pier, the body was recovered from the lake.
Because of the distance and time required to get there from where it was, as well as the state of the object, CFD Deputy District Chief Jason Lach declared that it was not related to the occurrence. Lach urged boaters to be cautious.
CFD Deputy District Chief Jason Lach said,
“Anybody operating a boat, you need to know your navigational hazards,”
“If you are operating any kind of a vessel out here in Lake Michigan, know your capabilities. Make sure you have life vests on board for everybody. With the hot weather, everyone is out enjoying themselves. Boat operators, do not be drinking and operating. Things can happen.”
Experienced boater Ted Widen, who plans boat parties in the Playpen, was on Lake Michigan last night when he reported that the wind kicked up and it rapidly got dark.
Ted Widen said,
“I thought about it last night. I said to my friends, I’m like, it’s just ridiculously dangerous.
“If you don’t know what you’re doing in Chicago, it’s treacherous, because the break walls around the playpen and navy pier, they are not marked at all. They are there, they’re right at the entrance. But we are talking about at least 2 miles of break wall with no lights on it. So, if you don’t know what you’re doing, you had too much to drink, forget about it.”
The accident’s cause is the subject of an investigation. The cause of the crash, the license status of the boat’s operator, and whether alcohol played a role in it are all unknown.
