Alex Graham, a forward for the Sheffield Steelers, tragically passed away at the age of 20. He made 81 appearances for the South Yorkshire team and playing for Great Britain at the youth level. 

On Monday afternoon, the Steelers announced this sad information on their official website and social media. They demanded that his family be allowed privacy so that they could handle the “tragic situation.” The exact cause of Graham’s passing is still unknown.

“The Steelers are devastated to advise that Alex Graham sadly passed away this weekend,” the team said in a statement.

“Everyone at the club is heartbroken by the news and wish to pass on our thoughts and condolences to Alex’s family, friends and teammates.

“It would be appreciated if Alex’s family could be provided time and space to take in the enormity of this tragic situation in the days ahead.”, the team stated.

Who was Alex Graham?

Graham played for Bradford & Sheffield, the Midland/ Northern conferences, England at the U-15, U-18, and U-20 levels, as well as Great Britain during his youth career.

Alex played with Sheffield Steeldogs as a senior player and contributed significantly to their most recent victories.

Last month, the Dronfield athlete was ecstatic after being granted his first full-year professional contract by top-flight club Sheffield Steelers.

He has made 81 appearances while playing for the Sheffield Steelers since 2019, and he recently secured his first full-time professional contract with them for the upcoming season.

Graham had played for the Steelers in the Elite League and the Sheffield Steeldogs in the National League during the course of his whole professional career up to that point in his home city of Steel City.

The young athlete, who made his Steelers debut in 2019, has appeared 81 times for the team and was seen as a promising young star in the sport. 

Graham was on his way to becoming the next truly great British player, even being predicted to follow in the footsteps of Tony Hand, Liam Kirk, and Robert Dowd from the current Steelers lineup.

The 2023–24 EIHL season was expected to be a turning point for the player who desperately desired to represent his country at the senior level.

Alex Graham, a forward with the Sheffield Steelers, tragically passed away in the road accident. He recently agreed to a full deal with the Sheffield Steelers for the next campaign.

Coach Aaron Fox of the Steelers gave him a chance to showcase his strength and skills throughout a whole season, which was complemented by a developing sense of maturity both on and off the ice.

Steelers stated that, skater was “an outstanding talent about to make his mark on the professional game”. The club didn’t mentioned any other details on his passing.

A Derbyshire police spokesperson stated that, “We were called by East Midlands Ambulance Service to a property in Dronfield, at around 2.50 pm on Saturday, June 24. A man in his 20’s was pronounced dead at the scene. There are thought to be no suspicious circumstances and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
