Who was Albert Reichmann?

Albert Reichmann was a Canadian businessman.

He was one of the Reichmann corporate empire’s five controlling brothers. One of the top 100 wealthiest families in Canada is the Reichmann family.

In Vienna, Austria, to Orthodox Jewish parents, Albert Reichmann was born. 

The family managed to flee Nazi-occupied Paris and Austria.

Career

Paul and Ralph Reichmann, two of his younger brothers, had established businesses in Toronto when Reichmann moved there. Their 8.4 billion dollar corporation, Olympia and York, had Paul as its president in 1989.

Although he was the company’s chairman, Albert Reichmann played a supporting role and is most recognized for his philanthropic endeavors. While Paul was focusing on the Canary Wharf project in the late 1980s, Albert became actively involved in the struggle for Jews in the Soviet Union.

Albert Reichmann tried to help them immigrate to Israel using his resources and power. Albert Reichmann reportedly lobbied congress about Israel and Libya in 1993. In Brooklyn, New York, his endowment is located.

In 1958, Albert Reichmann had a son named Philip Reichmann. Before it was sold to Brookfield in 2005, he oversaw O & Y Properties Incorporation. In addition to investing, Albert Reichmann also filed a lawsuit against ImageSat.
