Bruce Guthro passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves behind his beloved family members including his wife Kim, son Dylan and Daughter Jodi.
Guthro was known for his famous songs. Bruce’s legacy as a true ambassador for good songs/songwriting and Maritime/Canadian musicians and artists will live on as well!
Who was Bruce Guthro?
Bruce Guthro was a renowned vocalist and composer from Canada. Mr. Bruce Guthro was born and raised in Sydney Mines, Cape Breton, as the seventh of nine children.
Runrig is a Celtic rock band from Scotland. He was the group’s lead vocalist in 1998. The vocalist has also garnered many East Coast Music Awards (ECMAs). Additionally, he founded and served as host of the Canadian television programming Songwriters Circle.
Guthro has a significant body of professional experience and has been involved in the music business since 1994.
Bruce worked in Northern Saskatchewan’s hard rock mines for a short time after graduating from before returning home to pursue his love of music and songwriting.
He learned the value of dedication, endurance, devotion, and tenacity while working to support himself while improving his musical abilities.

The experiences and life lessons he had learned over the years transcended via his hands and heart when the time came to pursue music full-time. He was signed to his first international record deal by EMI Music Canada in 1998 after coming to their attention.

In addition to hosting the CBC Gemini Award-winning “Songwriter’s Circle,” he received nine East Coast Music Awards, three Canadian Radio Music Awards, the SOCAN #1 Songwriter Award, and other honours.
He has also sold well over a million songs worldwide. Bruce lived with his wife Kim, a teacher who is also from Sydney Mines. They resided in Halifax. Their kids, Dylan and Jodi, are proud to be a part of the Nova Scotia music scene and are following in their father’s footsteps.
