In 1982, Mario started his career as an entertainment writer for the Journal Group of Companies.

Dumaual was a reporter for entertainment before joining the Ministry of Agriculture. He also had jobs at a shipping line and a finance firm.

In 1982, he started working at the Times Journal. When he received a job offer from ABS-CBN, he became a columnist in Malaya.

His television career began in 1987 when he joined ABS-CBN News as an entertainment reporter and continued up until his death. On July 31, Mario would have turned 65 years old.

Mario received the Joe Quirino Award at the 5th EDDYS Awards, which were hosted at the Metropolitan Theatre on November 26, 2022, in honur of his work in the entertainment sector.

The statement from the family is as follows:

His wife Cherie, children Luigi, Miguel, Maxine, William, and Thessa, as well as his grandchildren Sky, Alonzoe, and Tali, survive the veteran journalist.

ABS-CBN also shared the news of Dumaual’s passing on their Twitter account.

It read,

“Veteran ABS-CBN News entertainment reporter Mario Dumaual has passed away, according to his family.

Goodbye and thank you, Kapamilya.”

Mario Dumaual Cause of death

The legendary ABS-CBN showbiz reporter’s cause of death has been made public following his passing. Mario, who would have turned 65 on July 31, passed away at 8:01 a.m. on July 5 as a result of Septic Shock, a disease that occasionally happens in severe sepsis that causes blood pressure to decrease and the organs to become oxygen-deficient.

Mario’s wife said that he had been struggling with a serious fungal infection, which had developed as a side effect of his heart attack recovery. He spent a month in the Philippine Heart Center’s hospital.

Since Mario Dumaual suffered a heart attack and was confined to a hospital, his family pleaded with the public to remember the ABS-CBN entertainment reporter in their prayers.

On June 8, 2023, Miguel Dumaual, his son and an online journalist, wrote on Facebook:

“It’s been a difficult week, but we still have much to be grateful for. Papa suffered a heart attack last Monday and remains under critical care today, three days on. But he can now at least tell us, during the few times he’s given his phone while isolated, that he misses and wishes to be with us. I’ve never treasured a message so much after what Papa went through and is still hurdling.

Papa’s never once been confined in my 32 years, so this experience has been overwhelming. But us family have kept each other anchored (love you Ma Cherie); our relatives too have been a solid source of strength (thank you Carl for helping align so much to save Papa’s life).

The constant stream of messages and well wishes for Papa — from his friends in the industry and countless others he’s worked with or briefly encountered, and even kind strangers — they have been a heartwarming reminder of how loved he is. Sorry that I haven’t been able to reply right away to most of the messages; we’re hoping to share better, more encouraging news as Papa recovers.

For now please keep him in your prayers. We claim that in the coming days we’ll have more to be grateful for, including having him back home.”

Mario Dumaual’s wife stressed that he persisted in fighting through the heart attack and subsequent cardiac arrest. He would frequently express a desire to return home because he missed his family, she continued. His body tried to heal, but the illness was too strong. Unfortunately, Mario Dumaual passed away after a long battle with the illness.
