Joseph “Chef Joe” Nader Jr., an executive chef and former owner of a well-known chocolatier and meal prep business, has passed away. He was 52.
Amalia Watanabe, his daughter shared this sad news saying, Nader died on Thursday, March 2, at St. Joseph Mercy/Trinity Health Ann Arbor. He died after a three-month illness. He was surrounded by many of his family members.
Watanabe described her father as someone who was deeply involved in everything he did, and even though he lived in Plymouth, he was proud to be a Detroiter.
“He was generous and gave his everything to everyone, not only working hard for his family but also the communities that he was part of,” Watanabe stated.

Chef Joe Nader Jr. was the founder and Chef of Hardcore Meals & Guilt Chocolates. Joe is the former executive chef of Ford Field. In the 1970s, Chef Joe Nader began visiting Eastern Market with his grandfather.
Joe has rekindled his connection with Eastern Market, both professionally and as a member of the community, as the executive chef of the Detroit Lions.
He also served as an Executive Chef for the W Hotel. He led culinary operations for all of Ford Field and the training center. While at the training center, he worked alongside the team nutritionist on developing meals that supported the elite performance of the athletes.
