CPD update on Gage Park shooting:
Brown stated that the officer was shot multiple times, and the 18-year-old suspect was shot in the head. He is seriously injured.
Police detained Steven Montano, 18, Rodrigoo Ramirez, 22, and a 15-year-old boy. Authorities charged the youngster with felony counts of aggravated unauthorised use of a weapon and aggravated battery with a handgun.
Ramirez was charged with felony counts of unlawfully using a weapon and fleeing or attempting to flee from police.
Montano was charged with a misdemeanour count of resisting police, according to an official. The three suspects were scheduled to appear in bond court on Saturday afternoon.
After engaging in a foot chase around 53rd/Spaulding in Gage Park, the Chicago police officer was shot in the face and leg.
Police investigation:
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability will be conducting an investigation into the police shooting. Brown said body-worn camera footage is being reviewed.
The suspect “turned immediately and fired,” Brown said. “At close range, shots were exchanged.” In the moments following the shooting, a cop can be heard screaming into the police radio, “10-1, 10-1, officer down,” the code for an officer in need of assistance.

Brown stated that the suspect is 18 years old and has no extensive criminal history. Meanwhile, dozens of police cars escorted that officer’s body to the medical examiner’s office in a solemn procession Wednesday night.
There was also a large police presence at Mt. Sinai Hospital, where officers gathered to show their support.
