Britain has seen yet another migrant tragedy in its waters today as a boat carrying between 40 and 50 people got into trouble in icy cold waters . Four have tragically died while 43 have been rescued in the early hours off the coast of Kent.
This morning, rescuers hauled people out of the icy water; several required evacuations. Five miles off the Kent coast near Dungeness, the boat is sinking.
In the early hours of today morning, the coastguard and naval ships sped to the site. The Boat could have been carrying up to 50 people and had trouble in ice waters during below-freezing weather.
As crews were launched off the coast at around 3 am. Temperatures were reported to be -4C last night. Rescue boats and ambulances were also called.

Sea mid-Channel was just 9C
One fisherman from Dover reported that the Channel’s middle had a sea temperature of just 9C. If you entered the water in the middle of the channel without a dry suit or other protective clothing in those conditions. you would have about five minutes before you started to struggle, according to the trawlerman who wished to remain unnamed.
It would be quite challenging to attempt to keep afloat if you started to get muscle cramps in your limbs.

It was like something out of a Second World War movie. There were people in the water everywhere, screaming,’ the skipper, named Raymond, told Sky News.
43 people recovered and receiving treatment. Four have now been confirmed dead – with fears the grim toll could rise.

Mr. Sunak opened PMQs this afternoon by voicing ‘sorrow’ at the ‘tragic loss of human life. Keir Starmer said it was a ‘reminder that the criminal gangs running those routes put the lives of the desperate at risk and profit from their misery.
Home Secretary Suella Braverman stated in a statement . “The most terrible reminder conceivable of why we need to cease illegal crossings.”
Yesterday, Mr. Sunak announced that additional effort would be devoted to stopping small boats, dismantling people-smuggling organizations, and updating the “outdated” asylum system.

A Government spokesperson said: “At 0305 today, authorities were alerted to an incident in the Channel concerning a migrant small boat in distress.

“This is a truly tragic incident. Our thoughts are with the friends and families of all those who have lost their lives today.”
Border Force rescue response is now a ‘well-honed’ machine
Former Border Force director general Tony Smith told Sky News that the operational response to incidents in the Channel was now well-honed and ‘an awful lot of lives have been saved.
‘I think we can only count our blessings that we haven’t seen more incidents like this,’ he said
A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesperson said this morning: ‘HM Coastguard is currently coordinating a search and rescue response to an incident involving a small boat off Kent, working with the Navy, Border Force, Kent Police and other partners.
‘We have sent Dover, Dungeness, Hastings, and Ramsgate RNLI lifeboats and Deal, Dungeness, and Folkestone coastguard rescue teams, along with the coastguard area commander.
‘HM Coastguard helicopters from Lydd and Lee on Solent and one from the French Navy are involved. A fishing vessel in the area is also assisting in the rescue. South East Coast Ambulance and Kent Police are working with us and an air ambulance has been sent.
‘The incident is ongoing and we have no further information.
