How was the suspected Stockton serial killer arrested?
STOCKTON, Calif- Authorities in Stockton reported on Saturday that an arrest had been made in connection with the six murders in California.
At a joint press conference regarding the homicide series investigation, Mayor Kevin Lincoln, City Manager Harry Black, and Stockton Police Chief Stanley McFadden announced the statement.
Around 2:00 a.m., Wesley Brownlee, 43, was taken into custody. Chief McFadden mentioned that Saturday.
“This guy was being followed while driving by our surveillance team. We observed his behavior and came to the conclusion that he was out to kill early this morning. He was on the hunt, “explained Chief McFadden.
Brownlee was stopped, according to Chief McFadden, as soon as police made contact with the suspect. Brownlee wore a mask around his neck and was dressed in gloomy attire. The chief claimed that when Brownlee was taken into custody, he was also carrying a gun.
The trial for Brownlee is scheduled for Tuesday at 1:30. As investigators in both jurisdictions tried to identify whether the murderer was connected to a run of killings in Rogers Park in 2018 based on similarities in surveillance videos from both places, Chicago police spoke with their counterparts in California.
Later on Friday, Stockton police stated that there didn’t seem to be a relationship. Authorities stated earlier this month that the California serial murderer seemed to be “on a mission” during the 2021-dated death shootings of six males and the injury of one woman.

The crimes in Stockton and Oakland, which were about 70 miles (110 kilometers) apart, were connected by ballistics testing and video evidence, according to police.
Oakland was the scene of the first shooting death in April 2021. Days later, the woman was hurt in Stockton. After more than a year, the five murders in Stockton happened between July 8 and September 27, all within a few square miles, according to authorities.
According to authorities, each victim was killed alone, and the murders took place at night or in the early hours of the morning. It has been people of different races, but they have a similar complexion, so that is probably what we have in common, the chief added. “The places and the atmosphere have always been the same: They are very dark places with few witnesses nearby.”
Who is Wesley Brownlee?
Police revealed CCTV footage of a suspect in the killing spree before the arrest and suggested that a serial killer “on a mission” may be responsible for the atrocities.
Police in California has detained a guy who is suspected of killing six people in a series of homicides while “out hunting” for his next victim.
Wesley Brownlee was detained by police early on Sunday morning when he was traveling in Stockton, where five of the murders occurred, and was carrying a weapon. After getting tips from the public, the 43-year-old was being followed by the police.
Police Chief Stanley McFadden stated, “Based on tips coming into the police and Stockton Crime Stoppers, we were able to zero in on a likely culprit. “This guy was being followed while driving by our surveillance team. We observed his behavior and concluded that he was out to kill early this morning.”
Brownlee was held, according to Mr. McFadden, after acting in a way that seemed menacing, such as visiting parks and dark areas before pausing and taking a look around before continuing to drive.
The police chief claimed that he was “out hunting,” wearing all-black clothing, carrying a rifle, and wearing a mask around his neck.
The alleged suspect’s weapon was seen in a police photo, and it seemed to be a semi-automatic revolver made partially of non-metallic materials. In an 18-month killing spree in the Stockton and Oakland counties, Brownlee is charged with shooting dead six men and injuring a woman.
Victims
On April 10, 2021, 39-year-old Juan Vasquez Serrano was Oakland’s first fatality. Natasha LaTour, 46, was shot in Stockton six days later but was able to escape death by frightening her assailant by approaching them.
More than a year later, the murderer struck once more, killing Paul Yaw, 35, on July 8th, Salvador Debudey on August 11th, Jonathan Hernandez Rodriguez, 21, on August 30th, and Juan Cruz, 52, on September 21st.
Lawrence Lopez, 54, who passed away on September 27th, was the most recent casualty. Ballistics testing and video evidence connect the crimes, leading police to suspect that the same person was responsible for all of the shootings.
For information that resulted in an arrest, a $125,000 (£109,000) reward was offered. Police stated that Brownlee has a criminal background and that it is likely that he has resided in various places close to Stockton, but they could not provide any other information.
At the press conference, a moment of silence was held for the victims.
Juan Vasquez Serrano, 39, was killed in Oakland on April 10, 2021, and Natasha LaTour, 46, was shot in Stockton on April 16 of that year but survived. The five men killed in Stockton this year were Paul Yaw, 35, who died July 8; Salvador Debudey Jr., 43, who died Aug. 11; Jonathan Hernandez Rodriguez, 21, who died Aug. 30; Juan Cruz, 52, who died Sept. 21; and Lawrence Lopez Sr., 54, who died Sept. 27.
Since none of the victims seemed to have much in common, investigators have been attempting to determine a motive for the attacks.
However, not all of the victims were homeless. None were harmed or robbed, and the woman who made it out claimed her assailant remained silent.
