Aaron O’Neil Cause of death was not known clearly. On Wednesday, Aaron suddenly collapsed and died after some time at his home in Portadown.
His sudden death was shocking for GAA community. “He traveled from Cork to watch his daughter’s play only last Saturday, demonstrating the dedication he had to boost her career. He was his daughter’s biggest supporter. In that match, he supported his daughter who plays for Ballyhegan Davitts GAC, and her team lift the Intermediate Championship at Abbey Park in Armagh, that day.
The club’s PRO, Richard Hendron, said Mr. O’Neill was a “fantastic character” who was known and loved by many in the county. “He was a proud Armagh supporter and was GAA to the core. Everyone who knew him held him in great esteem, and when it came to his daughter’s GAA career, he was the proudest person in the world. ”

Who was Aaron O’Neil?
Aaron O’Neil was well-known as a superfan of Armagh GAA. As a Portadown native, Aaron played soccer at the youth level and was active with the Tr-na-nOg GFC in the community. Mr. O’Neill, a veteran of the Irish army who had held positions with the Irish Naval Service, was known as his daughter Caitlin McCormack’s “greatest fan,” attending her Armagh minor girls football squad games.
Aaron was a frequent visitor to Leeside and was a popular face on the sidelines of many games. He married Rebecca Walsh, the daughter of Ballyphehane GAA Club Chairman Tim Walsh, from Cork. He has three daughters—Caitlin, Saorla, and Cushla.
The city club has joined other clubs and supporters groups around the nation in paying tribute to the dedicated GAA man who traveled the world supporting his beloved Orchard County. Mr. O’Neill, who lived at Rose Cottages, was the beloved husband of Rebecca (Becky), loving father of Caitlin, Saorla, and Cushla, dearly loved son of Deirdre and the late Seamus, dear brother of Tracy and Cathy, and a much-loved uncle.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday from 80 Rose Cottages at 10.50 am and then to the Church of St. John the Baptist, Drumcree, for Mass at 11.30 am.
Following that, interment in the adjacent cemetery.
The family has asked for family time only from 10 pm on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Family flowers only, with donations if desired to Air Ambulance NI c/o the family.
