Domestic violence shooting: Monica found dead

Around 5 o’clock, units responded to a call of a woman who had been shot and was found unconscious inside of a car in the 1100 block of Allen Genoa Road, according to HPD Assistant Chief Chandra Hatcher.

Hatcher said the woman was found with gunshot wounds to the neck and head. On the spot, she was determined to be dead.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the victim’s identify. Through the course of our investigation, we were able to identify the victim as Monica, a mother of two from Houston, Texas.

As expected, Monica’s family and friends were devastated to learn of her loss, and the neighborhood has been flooded with condolences.

Police Investigation:

Authorities believe domestic violence had a role in the crime because, according to family members who had called the police hours earlier, the suspect had claimed to have killed both his fiancée and the mother of his children.

A short while later, cops responded to a report from a federal probation officer requesting a welfare check at an apartment complex on the East Side at 4:30 p.m.

According to Hatcher, the probation officer called HPD to request officers to check on the woman after hearing from the family that their “probationee” killed his wife.

When the cops arrived, nobody was at the door and there were no indications of criminal activity. A call regarding a person down in the 1100 block of Allen Genoa Road came to HPD about 30 minutes later.

When the police came, they discovered the woman with gunshot wounds seated in the passenger seat of a black automobile.

Suspect Found?

Hatcher said that the woman’s car arrived at the scene about 9 a.m. with the suspect at the wheel and her in the passenger seat. After about ten minutes, a silver BMW with a woman behind the wheel drew up behind them.

Authorities said that the male driver of the black automobile got out of the car and appeared to fire several shots into it, striking the woman. He then accompanied the woman into the silver BMW as they drove off.

According to Hatcher, the suspect was under federal probation for crimes related to felony firearm possession and possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute that originated in Louisiana.

The suspect is still being sought by HPD. He was seen getting into a 2013 silver BMW with the license number SRZ8098.
Officials report that the couple’s two kids, ages 14 and 16, were discovered to be in good health.

The suspect’s family reportedly informed the police that he wanted to return to prison. In the press conference, Hatcher addressed the suspect directly, saying,

“If you are out there, please turn yourself in. No one wants to hurt you, but we will like to talk to you.”
