Longtime Gulf Coast ring announcer, Joey Goetz, passed away suddenly on September 28, 2023. WA Pro Wrestling grieves the Death of Beloved Joey Goetz and the Wrestling communities are sharing their tributes on the passing of Joey. Read on to learn more about his death.

What happened to Joey Goetz?

Joey Goetz, a well-known Ring Announcer and former referee for promotions in the Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida Gulf Coast has passed away.

This devasting news was announced by AWA Pro Wrestling in their social media page and the post reads, 

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we report the untimely passing of our dear friend Joey Goetz.

Joey has been involved with the Independent Wrestling scene as a Ring Announcer, Referee and more for more than 9 years. In his spare time, he would dedicate his time helping as a volunteer with the Animal Rescue Foundation as he was very passionate about animals. Joey was not only an exceptional ring announcer but a great friend to us all. We will miss him dearly.

Please keep his family, friends, fans and our AWA family in your prayers tonight.

Who was Joey Goetz?

Joey was a beloved personality in independent wrestling and ardent supporter of animal welfare. His sudden passing has left a void that can never be filled. 

Joey, who was born on March 15, 1985, spent more than nine years of his life working in the independent wrestling industry as a referee, ring announcer, and in a variety of other roles.  He was from Mobile, Alabama.

Every match he announced benefited from his unusual voice and magnetic presence, which made a lasting effect on both viewers and wrestlers. Joey was a tremendous asset to the wrestling community because of his contagious love for the sport. 

Joey’s love for animals:

Joey had a passion for pro wrestling and animals. He volunteered his free time to the Animal Rescue Foundation, turning his love of animals into worthwhile activity.

His steadfast dedication to animal welfare made a profound impact on the lives of innumerable furry friends and those who looked after them.

Goetz was distinguished by more than simply his achievements in his line of work and his commitment to issues that were important to him.

He was a beloved friend who was well-known for his generosity, good humour, and unflagging support. His relationships were sincere and based on camaraderie and trust.  

Joey Goetz cause of death:

Joey Goetz passed away after an illness at the age of 38. Recently, he announced that he suffers health issues and he didn’t attend any events because of that. But it was not clear what type of illness he suffered.

Before I became a pro wrestler I used to sit in the crowd every month and I would cheer with the rest of the crowd as Joey Goetz would come out to announce the next match and I was one of the first people to even buy his shirts when he started selling them at shows. Fast forward a couple years, I’m making my debut and the first person to ever say my name into a microphone was Joey and as someone who had heard him announce so many legendary people in the buissness hearing my name amongst them was an honor and now I’m truly sadden that I will never get to see or hear Joey again.
