Tim Speece worked as a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Brownsville, Texas. He was a former meteorologist at WFO in Brownsville, Texas. Tim Speech’s death was announced by the US National Weather Service Brownsville/ Rio Grande Valley Texas.

Tim was honored in 2020 for his 30 years of federal service. Tim was a great forecaster and leader in office programs. He served in the forecasting program, in which the operating systems ensure we get hazardous weather information to all who make decisions to meet our life and property protection mission.

Tim Speece cause of death was heart disease. Tim died from heart complications during the late evening hours of Saturday, November 5, 2022, as per the statement shared by the NWS Brownsville

US National Weather Service Brownsville/ Rio Grande Valley Texas shared a death statement of Tim Speece and the Statement reads,

“Tim Speece, our beloved colleague, and friend passed away due to heart complications during the late evening hours on Saturday, November 5, 2022. Tim began his National Weather Service (NWS) career at the NWS office in Waterloo, Iowa on November 19, 1990. On February 9, 1995, Tim was selected to be a journeyman forecaster at the NWS office here in Brownsville. On May 10, 1998, Tim was promoted from journeyman forecaster to lead forecaster. Tim was one of the original lead forecasters at our office.”, it reads.

“Tim had a wonderful personality, kindness for others, a great intellect, and an easy-going nature. He got along with everyone he came in contact with. Tim had a way to make everyone feel at ease. His thought-provoking stories and humor were second to none. These are just some of the characteristics that made Tim a great person. He was well respected and loved by many. He will be sorely missed by many people both inside and outside the NWS. We continue to grieve for the loss of our NWS family member. We will also continue to keep Yolanda, his wife, and Tim’s family in our thoughts as they grieve the loss of a wonderful human being.”

Tim Speece career:

Tim Speece got his degree from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Atmospheric Sciences from 1986 to 1990.

Tim started his NWS career in 1990 as a meteorologist intern at WSO in Waterloo, Iowa. He served as the NWS officer from November 1990 to April 1995. Tim was chosen in 1995 for a forecaster post at the local NWS office in Brownsville. Tim received a promotion to lead forecaster at our office in 1998.

Words will never be able to convey the tremendous loss felt by all that knew Timothy Speece.

Over the last few years here in Brownsville, Tim became someone that I could not only call a friend, mentor, and coworker, but also family. Working shifts with him were full of silly jokes, with him making me laugh until I cried, ranting about the state of the world, and cheering me up when I was feeling down. We could make fun of movies for hours, swap book recommendations, and share funny memes. He was truly one of a kind. He cared for everyone around him and would never hesitate to help you when needed.

The world was a better place with him in it, and I feel lucky to have known him.

Very sad news to share today (Nov. 6, 2022). Timothy Speece, a longtime lead forecaster at NWS Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley, passed away last night. Tim was a friendly soul and someone who was always available for great (and long) conversations on and off duty on just about anything. He was caring and generous, too—always bearing gifts for staff. especially movies and the stories behind them.

Tim was also a great forecaster and leader in office programs. Most recently, our operating systems that ensure we get hazardous weather information to all who make decisions to meet our life and property protection mission.

We are all saddened by the loss of our beloved colleague and friend, Tim Speece. Tim started his NWS career in Waterloo, Iowa in 1990. In 1995, Tim was selected to a forecaster position at the NWS office here in Brownsville. In 1998, Tim was promoted to a lead forecaster position at our office. Tim was a very kind man with a huge heart. He had an incredible intellect and often shared wonderful thought-provoking stories. He will be missed by not only all of us at the office but many others outside of our office.
