career Journey
The interim WBC Youth minimumweight title went to Fuentés on February 6, 2010, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, after he defeated Mexican Eduardo González in a ten-round unanimous decision. In Guadalajara in 2011, he defeated Raul Garcia in a split decision to earn the WBO minimumweight title.
In 2013, he competed in the Philippines against Donnie Nietes for the light-flyweight championship in an effort to win two world titles. Even though he put up an amazing performance, the match was tied to a split decision.
After two consecutive knockout losses, including a first-round KO loss to WBC flyweight champion Daigo Higa, he retired from boxing in 2018. After more than three years out from the ring, Fuentes eventually made a comeback in 2021, but she was defeated by Cuellar and suffered a terrible brain clot as a result.
knocked out in nine rounds
Philippines’ MANILA With a convincing ninth-round technical knockout victory over previous titleholder Moises Fuentes at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, the Philippines, Donnie Nietes solidified his place as the best 108-pound boxer in the world.
Following eight rounds of competitive boxing, Nietes caught the overly aggressive Fuentes coming in with a counter right hand, briefly shocking him before compelling him to kneel. Nietes has docked a point for striking Fuentes while he was down, but the little reprieve did little to help the fallen native of Mexico City.
The match was a replay of their unanimous decision draw in Cebu, Philippines, in 2013. Nietes, a 31-year-old Filipino from Bacolod City (33-1-4, 19 KOs), won the vacant RING 108-pound championship while defending his WBO junior flyweight crown. It was Fuentes’ first defeat since 2011 at the age of 28 (19-2, 10 KOs). Nietes once more knocked Fuentes to the ground with a right-hand chop, which prompted the referee to stop the fight at 2:56.
