The Brisbane Broncos are very saddened to hear of the passing of former Chairman and Director, Darryl Somerville. The entire Broncos family passes on our sincerest condolences to Darryl’s family and friends.
Darryl Somerville Biography
Darryl Somerville, BCom UQ, is a Fellow of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants (CPAs) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia (ICAA).
He presently holds the positions of Chairman of Sentinel Property Trust and Director of Careers Australia Group Ltd. Darryl joined PricewaterhouseCoopers in Brisbane in 1982 after spending 10 years working for the Australian Taxation Office, including 8 years in top roles in Canberra.
After 312 years, he was made a partner. When the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was implemented, he oversaw the Taxation Practise in Brisbane and was made the National Leader of the firm’s Indirect Tax Practise. He retained this role until 2000 when he resigned to focus more directly on customer needs.
During his tenure as National Director of the ICAA from 2000 to 2003, Darryl served as the organization’s national director. His clients included enterprises in the manufacturing, mining, energy and resources, retailing, and multi-national sectors.
Before retiring in 2005 after 23 years of service, he served on the PricewaterhouseCoopers National Board of Partners (and its predecessor) for 7 years, from mid-2004.
The Queensland Government Review of Electricity Distribution and Service Delivery, which presented its findings to Cabinet in July 2004, and the Energy Competition Committee, which oversaw the implementation of Full Retail Contestability in Queensland, are just two of the committees and panels he has presided over.
Darryl also served as the chairman of the Premier’s Awards for Export Achievement judging panel for nine years, from 1998 to 2004. Darryl was appointed Chairman of the Brisbane Broncos Ltd, an ASX-listed company, in 2005.
He also served for two years as Chairman of the board of Devine Limited, a publicly traded corporation. He has previously served on a variety of fundraising committees for charitable organizations, including the St. John’s Cathedral Completion Fund and the Juvenile Diabetes Walk Committee.

As per the family statement, it was confirmed that he passed away peacefully on 2nd July 2023. Other than that, neither his family members nor web media have provided any information regarding the cause of his passing.

SOMERVILLE Darryl Craig Aged 74 years. Late of Everton Hills. Passed away peacefully on 2nd July 2023. Much loved husband of Elizabeth. Adored by his sons Craig, Paul, and David, Daughter in-laws, Granddaughters, and his entire family.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Darryl’s funeral service to be held at the All Saints Anglican Church, Chermside. Service commencing at 10.30 am on Friday 7th July 2023.
