Collierville clinic shooting:

According to police, a patient who is suspected of killing a surgeon in Tennessee has been taken into custody.

Around 2:00 PM, a shooting took place inside the Campbell Clinic in Collierville, a city about 25 miles southeast of Memphis.

A patient shot and killed a medical professional in an exam room, according to Collierville Police.

Police Chief Dale Lane stated at a press conference that evening that the shooter was apprehended without incident outside the clinic about five minutes after the shooting. The suspect, who was found with a firearm “in his possession,” has not yet been named.

According to Lane, “this appears to be a one-on-one interaction,” who also noted that the patient had been present at the clinic “for several hours” before the event.

The patient had been threatening someone at the clinic for the previous week, according to a witness who was on the premises and spoke to Nexstar’s WREG.

Dr. Benjamin Mauck, an orthopaedic surgeon, was the victim; Lane claimed on Tuesday that he was not aware of any threats made against him.

He mentioned that there were a lot of patients and staff inside the clinic at the time of the incident. Following the shooting, Lane commended Campbell Clinic staff for their efforts to safeguard others. According to him, “they were practicing what they had been trained to do” in the event of an active shooter.

Lane noted that the inquiry is ongoing.

Lane also emphasized the shooting’s targeted character. He referred to the mass shooting at a Collierville Kroger in September 2021, in which one person was killed and 13 others were injured, and added, “This is not the mass shooting we experienced at Kroger a few years ago.”

In a statement released Tuesday night, Campbell Clinic acknowledged that the victim was Dr. Ben Mauck, who they referred to as a “highly respected and beloved physician.”

Gun Regulation Control:

Raumesh Akbari, the D-Memphis minority leader in the Tennessee Senate, advocated for gun regulation late on Tuesday in the wake of the tragic Clinic shooting.

In a press statement, she mentioned that a witness claimed the shooter had been threatening a member of the clinic staff for a week. Police are still trying to determine the shooter’s motive.

Akbari said,

“For a decade, Republicans have been loosening Tennessee’s gun laws and making our community more dangerous,”

“Tragedies like this underscore the urgent need for common sense – like reinstating background checks and gun licenses, and establishing new reforms like an order of protection so police can remove firearms from a person who is threatening others.

“Whether you’re at school, a grocery store or on the job, you deserve to live and work free from gun violence.”

The legislator demanded gun control measures, saying that under more stringent laws, it is likely that the shooter would not have had access to a weapon.

A renowned orthopaedic clinic with seven facilities in the region, Campbell Clinic focuses on sports medicine, cancer, rehabilitation, and surgery.

Authorities are currently looking into Mauck’s death circumstances, which are yet unclear. The news has obviously crushed Mauck’s family and friends, and the community has been horrified by the tragic loss.

The news of Mauck’s passing has understandably devastated his family and friends, and condolences have poured in from all over the neighborhood. Many people have expressed their sympathies and offered support to Mauck’s loved ones on social media during this difficult period.
