2J Hormonix death: What happened to him?

2J Harmonix, a rapper, YouTuber, and media enthusiast passed away. Jonathan, better known as “2J,” profoundly impacted many people’s lives and left an enduring memory in our hearts.

Jonathan was absolutely unique in his exuberant enthusiasm, infectious smile, and unwavering zest for life.

Andrea Abrahams, a former occupational therapist and a friend of 2J Harmonix, wrote the following statement on her official Facebook page, revealing Jonathan’s passing:

Jonathan Juliun Groenewald thank you for your friendship, for always making time for me and the young people who needed inspiration to reach for their dreams. We have lost a giant indeed. My deepest sympathies to the entire Groenewald family. Thank you for sharing your Jonathan so generously with all of us. RIP dear Jonathan…

He had a fantastic talent for coming up with brilliant ideas that inspired creativity and lit a fire in all of us. His infectious zeal for life inspired us to enjoy every moment and find joy in the little things.

It was confirmed that he died, according to the reports. His exact death cause has not yet been made public at the time of publication. 

Additionally, there is no proof that his sickness contributed to his passing. However, it is essential to await an official announcement before drawing any conclusions.

Other than that, neither his family members nor online publications have disclosed any information about the reason behind his death.

Jonathan Groenewald’s Life Journey

Who was he?

Jonathan Groenewald also known as 2J Harmonix, is a wheelchair user rapper, motivational speaker, disability activist, and author.

The wheelchair-bound rapper rose up the lyrical food chain with his hard-hitting metaphors and eyebrow-raising comments. He was born in Pretoria, which is known as Capcity Rapcity for its number of talented emcees.

2J Harmonix is not only a rapper, he is a motivational speaker and proud Casual Day ambassador. He released his debut album, Motivational, in 2015 and he is currently working on a new album, Throne on Wheels.

Nappy Run Ambassador

The National Council of & for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) organizes the Nappy Run campaign every year, which runs from 3 October to 3 December and ends on International Day for Persons with Disabilities.

The Nappy Run campaign campaigns and lobbies for the rights of disabled children while simultaneously raising awareness of the problems they face and money to purchase diapers for them.

The campaign’s centerpiece is a 5 km fun run that takes place at the Johannesburg Zoo on the first Saturday in November, which also happens to be National Children’s Day.

The occasion will happen on Saturday, November 2, this year. One of many devoted Nappy Run ambassadors, 2J, claims that he willingly accepts this position since he uses diapers and is aware of the stigma, challenges, and expenses related to it. I have a huge need for it.

My daily existence is much aided by nappies, he claims. 2J believes that as a Nappy Run ambassador, he can help bring awareness to the needs of children with disabilities.

“The Nappy Run fun run event itself is very important. It brings people together, raises awareness, and creates camaraderie,” he says.

“Being an ambassador means a lot to me. People can look to me for motivation and for reasons to donate funds towards nappies for Nappy Run.”

Jonathan Groenewald Illness

Muscular dystrophy (MD) Diagnosis

He was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy (MD), a class of muscle illnesses that cause skeletal muscles to weaken and degenerate over time.

Which muscles are most affected, the level of weakness, how quickly symptoms deteriorate, and the onset of symptoms vary amongst the illnesses.

2J Harmonix (age 33), a wheelchair-bound rapper who was given an MD diagnosis when he was two years old, has advanced in the lyrical hierarchy thanks to his provocative lyrics, deft wordplay, jarring metaphors, and eyebrow-raising comments.

He claimed that when physicians initially discovered he had MD, they warned his parents he wouldn’t likely survive past the age of four and, even if he did, he wouldn’t be able to go to a regular school or lead a normal life.

“My health deteriorated throughout high school, and I was unable to push myself any farther, preventing me from passing matric.

At the age of 13, I became interested in music and decided to make it my career. I struggled to get over my sadness, which had a bad impact on my music, and now people identify me more for my grin than for my wheelchair.

The fact that not all the locations where I am booked to play are wheelchair accessible makes it difficult to get on and off the stage, which is one of the major hurdles I have encountered in the entertainment industry, he said.

Casual Day ambassador

For 2J Harmonix, music is everything. As a Casual Day ambassador, he has the chance to inspire others to pursue their aspirations despite whatever challenges they may face or physical limitations they may have. 

Despite being the only child in a wheelchair, I grew up with many other kids. Up until the point when I encountered a person in a wheelchair and was unsure of how to behave, I didn’t understand why people would occasionally act strangely while approaching me.

I have been significantly enhanced by the knowledge I’ve acquired since being an ambassador. One of the most significant truths I’ve learned about life is that we are all unique people with our skills and flaws.

It enables me to be more forthcoming about my illness and to empathize with those who experience different kinds of challenges, he said. 

How did he become a rapper?

The biggest challenge he would ever have to confront was self-acceptance after his diagnosis. Being an introvert with no friends, he started writing poetry and rap songs with aggressive overtones to let go of his pessimistic outlook on life.

He gradually broke out of his shell and boldly expressed himself at poetry sessions and corner ciphers once his outlet turned into his passion.

His music now conveys a more uplifting message, showing the conflicted nature of a crippled artist and the capacity of people to persevere in the face of difficulty.

His catchphrase is “I’m unstoppable,” and he wants the world to know this and be inspired to never give up. If the sky is the limit, the Sun had better give me some room.

Friends and loved ones mourn 2J Harmonix’s loss
