Savannah Barry Calvert dead: What happened?
Late Friday night, a collision in Limerick’s city center resulted in the death of a teenage girl.
The deadly road traffic collision between a car and a pedestrian that happened last night, Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at about 11:40 p.m. in Limerick city’s Bank Place neighbourhood is being investigated by the Gardaí.
The girl was brought to University Hospital Limerick with serious injuries, where she later passed suddenly. There were no other recorded injuries.
Although the victim’s identity has not been made public by the police, our inquiry revealed that it was Savannah Barry Calvert, a 14-year-old from Limerick.
Road Closed?
For a forensic collision investigation, Gardai have closed the road at Bank Place, and local detours are in place.
Drivers entering the city from Corbally or Dublin Road direction can take a detour on Michael Street via the Granary building.

Garda are pleading with any witnesses to contact them if they saw this collision.
Anyone who was driving in Limerick’s Bank Place neighbourhood between 11 p.m. and 11.45 p.m. on Wednesday and may have video footage is urged to provide it to Garda.

A Garda spokesperson said:
“Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 11:40pm on Wednesday 16th August 2023 in the Bank Place area of Limerick city.
“The pedestrian, a female youth in her teens, was taken to University Hospital Limerick with serious injuries, where she has since passed away. No other injuries to persons was reported during the course of this collision.
“The road at Bank Place is currently closed with local diversions in place. Forensic Collision Investigators will conduct an examination of the scene.
“Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Bank Place area of Limerick city between 11pm and 11:45pm are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.”
Another Teen boy died in a collision in Cork city
Following the death of an eight-year-old kid involved in a car and bicycle collision in Dublin on Wednesday night, police in Cork have repeated their plea for witnesses.
Last Saturday at around 9.20am, a collision occurred on the Cork Road in Carrigaline close to the Ballinrea roundabout.
The child was brought to Cork University Hospital before being moved to Dublin’s Temple Street Children’s Hospital, where he passed away on Wednesday night.
