At around 2:00 BST, the student from Manchester Metropolitan University was found on Wilmslow Road with stab wounds. The police recovered the student and took him to the hospital.
Later, the student was identified as Luke O’ connor who is 19 years old from Manchester. But, sadly he passed away in the hospital due to his injuries. His family expressed how “deeply heartbroken” they were by his passing.

Statement from Luke’s family:
Luke’s family released a statement on the passing of their son and the statement reads:
“Luke was loved by so many people, and he knew how much he was loved in return. He had a profound impact on so many people throughout his life. He was extremely unique, and his presence would brighten any space.”
According to his family, he was “loving life in Manchester.” They also added that his friends frequently referred to him as a “legend” and the “life and soul.” He loved music and football and was a Liverpool fan.
His family added: “Luke was the youngest of three boys in our family and was a gentle giant with big hopes and dreams for the future. His biggest dream was to travel the world, but now Luke will never be able to fulfill that dream.”
“Our lively, bubbly, beautiful boy has been taken from us, and our family is now left with a hole in our hearts that will never be filled.”
“Justice needs to be served as we have lost our beautiful young Luke, who was robbed of life. We will continue to honor his name for as long as we are all here, and his legacy will go on forever.” The family requested privacy while they grieve.
What happened to Luke O’Connor?
Around two in the morning on Wednesday, Luke was attacked on Fallowfield’s Wilmslow Road. Officers from Greater Manchester Police performed CPR on him however, he died later in the hospital
from his wounds.
Greater Manchester Police stated that a murder inquiry had been begun and that investigators were “actively pursuing leads and would ruthlessly pursue the criminal.”
Mr. O’Connor was a second-year business management student who pursued her studies at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Manchester Metropolitan University stated that,
“Mr. O’Connor’s death was a “terrible shock for our whole community” and said it would be providing counseling for students.”
Letitia Jones, the president of MMU students’ union, stated: “The university is supporting everyone affected – if this has affected you deeply, please contact the counseling, mental health and wellbeing service.”
Many students from the city’s two major colleges live in the suburb where the incident occurred, which is located in the middle of a busy main road.
According to The Manchester Evening News, police believe the student encountered his suspected attacker while on his way home from a party. The two are not believed to have known each other.
Police said they were “actively pursuing leads” and would “relentlessly pursue the offender to ensure they are brought to justice”.
More police have been dispatched to patrol and reassure student areas. Anyone with knowledge regarding the attack has been asked to contact the police.
