The longstanding athletic director Joe Reyda ’85 passed away unexpectedly, and the Gonzaga community mourns his loss. When news of Joe Reyda’s untimely death broke, everyone was shocked and saddened. Keep reading to know more about Joe Reyda and his cause of death in detail.

 

Who was Joe Reyda?

Since 2001, Joe Reyda has served as the athletic director at Gonzaga College High School. From 1989 to 19945, he worked as the assistant dean of students and the assistant athletic director. He completed his bachelor’s degree in arts in psychology at the Catholic University of America. Up until his passing, he resided in Kensington, Maryland.

Joe Reyda attended Gonzaga College High School for his education. Coach Reyda participated in both football and golf as a student-athlete and coached both sports at Eye Street for a combined total of 18 years in football (three of those as Head Coach) and nine years in golf. He has been a full-time employee for 32 years, and he is currently in his 20th year as AD. In 2016, Coach Reyda was inducted in the Gonzaga Joe Kozik Athletic Hall of Fame.

Gonzaga has won a total of 165 championships under his direction as AD. In an interview, Coach Reyda discussed a variety of topics, including his admiration for all of our head coaches and his capacity to connect with them, the significance of organisation and flexibility for all athletic directors, his thoughts on long hours and the recent addition of lights to Buchanan Field, a few of his favourite moments, and more.

Joe Reyda, the cherished and eminent longtime athletic director at Gonzaga College High School, passed away early this morning, June 27, 2023, at his home.

Rev. Joseph E. Lingan, S.J., ’75, the president of Gonzaga College High School, announced the heartbreaking announcement on Facebook.

Many people whose lives Joe touched will miss him dearly, and he leaves behind many friends. President Rev. Joseph asked that during this extremely difficult time, everyone would remember Tricia, Joe’s wife, and their two daughters, Molly and Caroline in prayers. Funeral arrangements will be addressed in more detail as soon as it is available.

One of the worst things anyone can go through in life is losing a loved one. Any journey must have a destination at the end. The person’s time on earth has regrettably come to an end now that they have died. We wish him eternal peace and send our thoughts and prayers to his loved ones, family, friends.
