ATV Crash: What happened to Makayla Tuck?
On the evening of October 6th, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in Perry County’s Flatwoods area.
A deadly ATV crash involving two Perry County teens and one Wayne County teenager was investigated by the Perry County Sheriff’s Office and the Perry County Emergency Medical Service.
The accident occurred on private property, away from the highway. Unfortunately, the Wayne County teenager, Makalya Tuck, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A thorough investigation was performed by law enforcement, including the Perry County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The Perry County teenagers involved were found to be not under the influence of any impairing substances. The deadly crash was determined to be an accident following an inquiry.
Perry County Sheriff Nick Weems offered his condolences, saying, “Our prayers go out to the families affected by this tragedy.”

MaKayla, a member of the Class of 2023, recently graduated from Frank Hughes High School. She attended Old Union Community Church and found comfort and strength in her faith.
The creativity of MaKayla knew no limitations. She had an aesthetic expression through makeup that came naturally to her. She loved makeup and adorned herself with gorgeous haircuts and perfectly manicured nails. She had artistic talent that went beyond just being beautiful; she enjoyed painting and drawing.
Funeral Arrangements
MaKayla passed away on October 6, 2023, at the tender age of 18 years, leaving a profound impression on everyone she met. MaKayla’s visitation will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Waynesboro, Tennessee on Monday, October 9, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
The funeral service will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Waynesboro, Tennessee, on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 1:00 pm. Shayne Bratcher will officiate. Following the burial, Shackelford Funeral Directors will assist the family with final arrangements in Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
MaKayla is survived by her mother, Holly Tuck (Donald) ; two sisters, Lindee Rae Tuck and Sierra Gaconnet; two brothers, Levi Tuck and Travis Gaconnet; her nana, Leigh Staggs all of Clifton, TN; grandfather Tony Tuck of Maryland; great-grandmother Linda Bratcher of Waynesboro, TN; Aunt, Heather Davis of Clifton, TN; uncles, Dylan Berry (Chloe, Easton and Ranson Berry) of Humbolt, TN, and Michael Kilzer of Clifton, TN; great-aunt, Lisa Staggs; great-uncle Shayne Bratcher (Nikki); along with numerous other relatives and friends who cherished her dearly. MaKayla has joined her great-grandfathers Jerry Bratcher and Charles Tuck in mortality. She is with her great-uncle Layne Bratcher.
