Irish Grinstead, a member of the girl group 702 and the songwriter of popular songs including “Where My Girls At,” has passed away. She was 43 years old.
Lemisha Grinstead, a groupmate and sister of Grinstead, shared the information on Instagram.
“It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that my beautiful sister and friend has passed away this evening, She has had a long battle and she is finally at peace. That girl was as bright as the stars! She was not only beautiful on the outside, but also within. Sharing the stage with her was a joy I will cherish for the rest of my life! We, the family ask for prayers and respect for our privacy as we grieve an outstanding loss to our family.

Over the years, the Grinstead family has endured quite a few hardships. Orish Grinstead, Irish’s twin sister and the original founding member, passed away at the age of 27 from kidney failure on April 20, 2008.

The American girl group 702 (pronounced “Seven-Oh-Two”) is called after the area code of their hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada, and features Kameelah Williams, LeMisha Grinstead, and Irish Grinstead in its most well-known lineup.
No Doubt, their 1996 debut album, had singles like “Steelo,” which served as the theme song for the Nickelodeon television show Cousin Skeeter. They released their second album, 702, three years later, which included the popular song “Where My Girls At.”
They recorded their single “Pootie Tangin'” from the soundtrack for the Chris Rock movie Pootie Tang while Williams was briefly replaced by Cree La’More. Williams soon joined the group again. It was followed by another album called Star, which had the single “I Still Love You.”
In 2006, the group ended an eleven-year break. The Grinstead sisters made an appearance on the reality program BET Presents: The Encore in 2021, which followed nine ex-girl-group members as they tried to put together a supergroup and record an album in 30 days.
