Arturas Rudys passed away
During a rugby game between Wisbech and Diss, a tragic incident occurred resulting in the death of a rugby player named Arturas Rudys. It has been reported that the Wisbech player collapsed during the match on a Saturday afternoon.
Despite the efforts of ambulance personnel to resuscitate him right on the field, he unfortunately did not survive. The match, which was part of the Eastern Counties First Division and took place at the Chapel Road ground, had to be called off due to this heartbreaking turn of events.
Roger Pierson, representing the Eastern Counties Rugby Union, explained that there was a collision during the game, but he clarified that there was no head-to-head contact involved.
Pierson further noted that two Diss players with medical qualifications promptly rushed to assist the injured player, but despite their immediate aid, the rugby player tragically passed away on the pitch.
He said, “The RFU and the Injured Players’ Foundation are already involved and that help will be offered to Wisbech and also to Diss rugby.”
Mr. Pierson characterized the tackle as a “routine rugby event” and assured that comprehensive support was being provided to all the players affected by the incident. Additional information is anticipated from the Rugby Football Union in this regard.
